Arely sat in the café, looking at the girl across from her, whose every gesture exuded an almost unreal beauty. For a moment, she didn't know how to start the conversation.
She reached for her coffee cup, but then put it down.
"Rhianna, I actually envy you."
Hearing such an opening, Rhianna felt puzzled. Initially, she thought Arely had come to discuss matters with her as Rylee's ex-wife.
It was a rainy summer day, and the two of them were sitting in a quiet corner of the café.
Outside, the storm was approaching, and Rhianna listened to Arely as she began to tell her story.
......
"Although I invited you here to talk about Rylee, I ended up telling you my own story. I don't know what misunderstandings you and Rylee have, but every time I see him after you leave, he looks so lost, like he's a different person."
Arely had spoken a lot. She thought she would find it hard to open up, but unexpectedly, she could calmly recount her past with Aydin.
Rhianna just listened quietly, hearing about a Rylee she didn't recognize.
"Maybe I'm meddling, but I don't want you to misunderstand anything."
Their conversation ended, and Rhianna walked out of the café. The sky was already dark.
Her mind seemed to be replaying Arely's words.
"Actually, I had a bad feeling early on, and when I found out that Aydin was gone forever… I didn't know what to do. I chose to slit my wrists. It was Rylee who sent people to find me, and later, Rylee took care of me in the hospital."
"He saved me and made me realize that death doesn't solve anything."
"I really envy you. Rylee's love for you may not be obvious, but as an outsider, I can see it clearly."
"Cherish the one before you. That's the deepest lesson I've learned in love."
Rhianna drove aimlessly, somehow ending up at the hospital's inpatient department.
Arely's words had left her deeply moved. She had always thought her relationship with Rylee was over. She believed she knew Rylee well, but now realized he was a stranger she was most familiar with.
She used to think that no matter how hard she tried, she could never reach Rylee's heart. But now, Rhianna wondered if Rylee had been by her side in his own way all along, and she had never known.
Rylee, when will I truly know the real you?
In the dark of night, Rhianna sat in her car, reflecting on their two lives.
In the hospital room, Rylee lay with his eyes closed. He knew this was his last chance to protect the one he loved, and he was determined to keep her safe.
