2nd. Season -
Lane landed at the airport in the US finally. He was supposed to return yesterday, but a snowstorm in Rome had grounded all flights.
After a day of waiting, the plane finally took off, but his mind was in turmoil. He kept thinking about Carlyle, her doe-like eyes, and the nights they spent together. He wanted to hold her again. Had he misunderstood her?
A few years ago, she wasn't the one who had Alison kidnapped. So who was it?
Lane quickly hailed a cab and rushed to his brother-in-law Xavier's company. He hadn't seen Carlyle in days. Did she miss him?
He thought, Carlyle must feel something for him too. Otherwise, she wouldn't have kissed him the night before he left. He had gone back to Rome to do the most rebellious thing of his life.
He finally understood that while everything else could be compromised, his happiness could not.
I finally understood that his relationship with Lila was nothing more than a simple childhood friendship. Marriage cannot be forced, and a marriage without love is merely a lifelong decision made out of self-interest.
He had once believed he could dedicate his life to the family business. But meeting Carlyle had changed everything. He could go without sleep or food for her. When he saw her, he would ask her to be his girlfriend.
Had she thought of him these past few days?
When Xavier and Alison saw him, they were shocked.
Lane looked at them, puzzled. " what's wrong?"
Alison looked at him. "Weren't you back in Rome preparing for your wedding? Why are you here?"
Lane smiled. "Who told you I was getting married?"
"You took Lila back to Rome to prepare for your wedding. Aren't you two dating?" Alison seemed to sense something had changed about their plans.
Lane stopped smiling, replying seriously. "Actually, Lila and I were never dating."
Alison's face filled with confusion. "You weren't dating?"
Lane nodded. "I went back with Lila to explain to everyone that we would never marry. We're just good friends."
"But I could see you were very attentive to Lila, and she often talked about marrying you. So I always thought you were together." Alison's face was full of puzzlement.
"I'm sorry for causing you to misunderstand." he said.
Alison patted his shoulder and asked immediately, "So, can you tell me what made you want to do this?"
"I did it because..."
Just then, Kaiden and Gareth walked over, looking very worried.
Gareth shook her head at them and said, "I still can't find her." She was so worried that she was about to cry, "I mean, I thought we were good work buddies, having lunch together just the other day, and now I can't even find her!"
Kaiden patted her shoulder gently and said, "Gareth, if we can't find her, we'll call the police."
At that moment, Gareth suddenly looked up at Kaiden, worriedly said, "Kaiden, could it be her ex-boyfriend who took her away? You forgot that her ex-boyfriend was a terrifying lover with a history of domestic violence. I heard that he was released on parole recently, what if, she was taken away by him?"
Lane was confused, who was missing? He looked around but couldn't see Carlyle's figure. Could it be...? He felt uneasy and asked, "Who are you talking about that you can't find?"
Alison looked at him with a worried expression and said, "It's Carlyle. We haven't been able to contact her for two days." She thought he didn't know who she was. And she added, "Carlyle is your sister-in-law's assistant."
In an instant, Lane felt as if he had been pushed off a cliff, his body feeling as if it had been shattered into pieces. "What did you say? She's been missing for two days! How could this happen?" His voice suddenly became agitated, startling the people present.
Alison was frightened by his actions and said, "Lane, what's wrong with you?"
"How could she go missing?" Lane was terrified that something had happened to her and muttered to himself, "I should have left a note or something that morning, I should have told her clearly!"
When Alison looked at him again, his eyes were full of red blood vessels, and he said in a panicked manner, "Lane, what's wrong with you? You're making me so worried!"
Lane suddenly looked at Kaiden and asked, "Kaiden, can I ask you, what was Carlyle's ex-boyfriend's name?"
Kaiden felt very puzzled, but he told him anyway, "His name was Declan."
Lane clenched his fist angrily and said, "Declan, if you dare touch her in any way, I will never let you go!" At that moment, he took out a key from his pocket, which he had originally planned to give back to her later that night, but had put in his own pocket accidentally when he boarded the plane.
At this moment, Gareth saw the key and recognized it as the key to Carlyle's house. He remembered seeing her searching for it the other day. It turned out that the key was in Lane's hand all along. Could it be that Lane was the reason why Carlyle had been so distraught the other day?
Gareth shot the question right away, "Mr. Kim, how do you have keys to Carlyle's place?"
Lane looked at the key in his hand, his face filled with pain and regret. "How could I have her key?" He recalled the look of deep affection in Carlyle's eyes that night. He could not bear to lose her.
He clutched the key tightly in his hand and suddenly rushed out of the room.
Alison was too stunned to react in time. "Where are you going?" she asked.
Lane suddenly stopped in his tracks, his voice trembling. "No matter where she is, I have to find her!"
