Alison's eyes widened in surprise, her thoughts echoing inwardly: Are we truly that acquainted? He was Livia's beau, and with Livia gone, any connection seemed ill-fated.
Xavier noted her astonishment and queried, placing emphasis on her name, "Alison, is there discomfort in this?"
Alison attempted to divert her gaze, finding escape futile. Meeting his stare, she clarified, "Considering Livia's absence, you're no longer her boyfriend, and we're essentially strangers, wouldn't you agree?"
His gaze remained unwavering, a silent declaration of intent.
"I don't view us as strangers. We introduced each other. And you're the sister of my girlfriend."
Alison thought to herself, "What's with this guy? I already made it perfectly clear. Is he dense or something?"
"Xavier, I informed you, Livia has departed. She's no longer yours, and our paths shouldn't converge!" Her frustration mounting, she invoked his name in emphasis.
"I don't need this kind of concern!" Alison thought this man was utterly ridiculous. What was his purpose in saying that? She already felt uneasy being alone with a man, but this one was just too arrogant! She could only loudly reject him.
He watched her angry expression, unable to suppress a smile inside. This Alison was far more charming than Livia ever was. He said to her, "If—if Livia had asked me to take good care of you, would you accept my concern then?"
Xavier told her a colossal lie.
In that moment, Alison froze in shock. How could this be possible?
"I don't believe you. There's no way Livia would ask you to do that," she said, her voice firm. Even the most foolish person wouldn't ask their boyfriend to do such a thing!
Xavier recognized the accuracy in her words; Livia wouldn't have. She seldom mentioned her sibling, but this lie served to vent his pent-up frustration. Alison, how unfortunate, to cross my path.
