After that passionate night five years ago, she had vanished without a trace. He had almost gone mad looking for her! The final, definite news was that she was dead.
Someone had seen her being swept away by the waves.
Xavier refused to believe she was dead, even when he saw the drowned body back then.Something deep within his mind, an instinct perhaps, insisted that the woman who had drowned before his eyes could not be Alison Greyment.
He had never given up looking for her over the past five years, and just when he decided to give up, she appeared before him.
Carlyle, feeling as if she had been struck by lightning, stared at the TV screen, trembling all over. "Wasn't she dead five years ago? How could she be here now?"
Xavier abruptly stood up in front of her, his icy gaze making her shiver. He demanded, "Carlyle, didn't you say the police had confirmed that the drowned body five years ago was Alison? Why is she appearing at the press conference now?"
Carlyle, already terrified, took a few shaky steps back, stammering, "How is this possible? Five years ago, I confirmed that the body was Alison. She was clearly dead..."
Xavier angrily grabbed the contract from the table and said furiously, "Carlyle, you'd better give me an explanation I can accept when I get back. Otherwise, never let me see you again in all my life."
With that, he stormed off to his brother Kaiden Grantley's office, leaving Carlyle in a chill that seeped through her very bones.
