I sobbed in his arms, unable to contain myself. I had thought that his return would bring confrontations and provocations to me.
But now, regardless of everything, the desire to have him in my life surged forth once again, unstoppable.
My arm tightened around Ethan's neck as I pleaded, "Please, just give both a chance, okay? Please, Ethan, just give both a chance."
Give both my love and my business a chance. Over these years, I've learned how to love myself properly.
Once we get through this hardship, I promise to love you sincerely.
Ethan carried me into the car, and it began to move slowly down the road.
Thousands of lights from outside shone through the window onto us.
He sighed and finally answered my question, "It doesn't matter anymore."
My heart skipped a beat, and I sniffled, asking, "What?"
Ethan lowered his head, leaning on my shoulder.
His fingertips grazed softly over the soft flesh of my waist through my clothes.
"Whether it's purposeful or manipulation, it doesn't matter anymore."
"Sophie, I am willing to bite your bait."
His words carried a sense of surrender. Sophie, your affection may not be genuine, but I am willing to accept it all.
My entire body tingled. Ethan's lips warmed the skin of my neck. Hormones surged in the air, and the atmosphere grew intensely intimate. Nathan, driving in front, quietly raised the partition.
In a sudden twist of fate, a sense of grievance also arose. I gently pushed Ethan away, tears flowing uncontrollably.
"Just a few days ago, you said we were strangers from then on."
Ethan froze, then chuckled. His palm rested on the back of my head, his voice seductive. And then, he kissed me deeply. Finally, Ethan asked with a hint of mischief, "Do you only remember the harsh words?"
Even so, he was still the one yielding, just like before. Despite his numerous rejections, when I pouted childishly and stubbornly, he would always yield with a hint of helplessness.
"You just want to hear me coax you, huh?"
And then, he spent the night whispering sweet nothings to me. Nathan dropped us off at an intersection.
While waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green, there was a young lady across the street walking her dog.
I pointed at the Alaskan Malamute and looked up at Ethan, making a request, "Mr. Green, I want a puppy. I want one now."
Ethan looked at me twice, a smile tugging at his lips.
The green light illuminated, and the crowd surged from both sides.
I guessed he would go and borrow the dog to walk for a while. But he didn't.
Ethan undid his tie with one hand. The dark blue tie looped loosely around his wrist as he made a simple knot.
Holding the other end of the tie, he placed it in my hand. Then, he blinked, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
Mimicking a puppy, he let out a low whine. "Woof."
Damn it... My cheeks flushed red instantly.
A passing child tugged at her mother's sleeve, saying, "Mommy, that's embarrassing."
Ethan, full of playful intent, leaned towards me.
"My lady, do you want to take this puppy home?"
"Little Green Doggy will love you only from now on."
Handsome men can be very wicked.
Blushing, I asked, "Have you been studying in some raunchy novels these past years?"
"Mm, I've learned a lot. If you're willing, we can try them all out in the future."
