Rachel received the notice from Finnegan and was both stunned and furious.
She stormed into Lawrence's office to confront him.
"Why are you firing me?"
"Get out!"
Lawrence's face was dark, his gaze piercing as he glared at Rachel.
If it weren't for this woman's schemes, their child wouldn't have been lost.
Susie had almost died on the operating table.
"She must have complained about me, right? Mr. Sutton, you're firing me just for her? Aren't you afraid of losing everyone's support? I've contributed a lot to the company, and everyone knows it! If you suddenly fire me, who would dare to work hard for you?" Rachel was unwilling to accept it.
She had worked hard to get this position.
She couldn't lose it just like that.
"I don't need to explain my actions to you. You'll get all the compensation you deserve. Rachel, know your place. If you harm her, I won't show mercy!"
"Hah, and I'm supposed to just stand there and be humiliated by her?" Rachel retorted boldly.
"My child died because of you. It's already generous she didn't hit you!" Lawrence's face was filled with rage.
Rachel trembled and stammered, "It was a miscarriage caused by that truck accident. Why blame it on me?"
"Get out!"
Lawrence's face darkened further. The mere sight of Rachel disgusted him. This kind of woman, Gavin had wasted his feelings on her.
Susie's aversion to her was well-founded.
Keeping her around was an eyesore.
Seeing there was no room for negotiation, Rachel suddenly began to cry, "Mr. Sutton, I can't lose this job. I'll avoid Ms. Morris and won't talk back to her anymore."
Before Lawrence could respond, Susie lifted her head from his embrace, her gaze inscrutable as she looked at Rachel's performance.
Her tears indeed evoked a pitiful, man-pleasing image.
No wonder she could charm clients so easily. She had some skills.
Susie suddenly changed her mind.
"You can stay."
"Susie!" Lawrence looked at her, bewildered.
"Isn't she said it is unfair to fire her after what she had done for the company? Let her stay. Otherwise, there'll be no one left to entertain clients in the marketing department!" Susie coldly stared at Rachel.
Rachel's momentary joy quickly turned to pale dismay.
She glared at Susie but didn't dare to speak out. This job was crucial to her, with a mortgage waiting to be paid. Finding another job as good as this one would be difficult.
"From now on, you'll be my assistant!" Susie added, looking at Rachel.
"Susie!"
"No way!"
Lawrence and Rachel objected simultaneously.
"You don't have the right to object. What's wrong? Afraid to work by my side?" Susie glared at Rachel. Didn't this woman mock her for being incompetent?
She'd prove otherwise.
Could she be looked down upon by a scheming woman?
"Susie, there's no need to keep her around to..." Lawrence began, but Susie cut him off.
"Can't I choose my own assistant?"
She stood up and looked down at him.
Lawrence sighed, knowing what she intended, "If you want her to stay, she stays. If you want a position, I'll arrange it for you!"
Susie's gaze flickered as she touched Lawrence's desk, a cold smile on her lips.
"I think this position suits me!"
Lawrence looked at her and agreed without hesitation, "Alright! From now on, you're the CEO of Morris Group!"
Rachel watched in disbelief, biting her lip hard enough to draw blood.
Susie turned her sharp gaze to Rachel, "Feeling indignant? Too bad. He'd give me anything for my sake!"
This company was hers anyway. It was originally her family's.
Rachel felt a pang of jealousy over her disadvantaged background.
Lawrence stood up, gently stroking Susie's hair, "I'll be in the office next door. If you need anything, just call me."
The next office was his assistant's. He'd have to share it with Finnegan from now on.
Susie ignored Lawrence, turning to Rachel, who was still in shock, "Go make some coffee. If you can't handle being an assistant, I'll enroll you in a few months of training!"
"Yes!" Rachel gritted her teeth and turned to leave.
"You can't drink coffee. I'll make you some milk," Lawrence gently reminded her.
"None of your business!" Susie snapped back angrily.
Still upset with him.
"Do you dare to drink the coffee she makes?"
Lawrence's gaze was steady as he looked at her. Susie averted her eyes, replying coldly, "This is my office. Please leave!"
Lawrence sighed helplessly, gathering his files before leaving the office to her.
Susie glanced at him but didn't stop him.
Rachel brought the coffee, suppressing her anger, and placed it on the desk.
"Miss Morris, your coffee!"
"Call me Ms. Morris!" Susie corrected her coldly, taking the coffee.
"Ouch!"
"Are you trying to burn me?" Susie waved the coffee away, spilling it all over Rachel.
"You..." Rachel glared.
"Clean it up. If you can't even handle this, does Morris group need someone like you?" Susie grabbed a tissue to wipe her hands.
Rachel, seething, turned to get a mop to clean the office.
"Remember to bring my coffee!"
Susie sat in the executive chair, her high-end outfit naturally exuding an aura Rachel couldn't imitate.
"Yes!" Rachel returned with another cup.
She had to make several trips as Susie repeatedly rejected it for being too hot, too cold, or too strong. She always found a reason to send her back and remake the coffee.
Rachel finally lost her patience, slamming the coffee down, "Ms. Morris, I'm here to work, not just serve you drinks."
Susie was deliberately picking on her. Did she find it amusing?
"Isn't this part of your job? If you won't do it, should I do it myself?"
Susie retorted calmly, eyeing the coffee-stained desk.
"Clean the desk. You don't need to make coffee anymore."
Rachel clenched her teeth but obediently wiped the desk.
