Lawrence arrived at the Morris house and asked, "Has Susie eaten?"
"Miss said she's not hungry. I've called her several times, but she refuses to eat."
The servant was anxious, with no one else at home to coax her.
Susie had locked herself in her room, and the servant couldn't get in.
"Heat up the food."
Lawrence instructed, then quickly ran upstairs. He paused at the door to catch his breath before knocking.
"I said, I'm not eating!"
Susie yelled in frustration.
"Are you planning to starve yourself?" Lawrence sighed.
Being mad at him didn't mean she should harm her own health.
Susie widened her eyes. Why was he here again?
"It's none of your business whether I starve or not!"
Hearing her shout, Lawrence remained unfazed.
He smiled slightly, coaxing her softly, "Come open the door."
Susie sat up, glaring at the door, her face pale.
Who did he think he was? Coming and going as he pleased.
They were divorced, for goodness' sake!
"Why are you here? Get out of my house!"
"Open the door first!" Lawrence insisted, "If you don't, I can't guarantee I won't kick it down!"
"Lawrence, If you dare kick it, just do it!"
Susie fumed, but when she didn't hear him respond, she became anxious. Would he really kick the door?
"Three, two..."
Susie quickly jumped out of bed and rushed to the door.
Hearing hurried footsteps inside, Lawrence's lips curved slightly, but he quickly composed himself when she opened the door.
"Are you crazy?" Susie glared at him, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
Lawrence squeezed inside, pinning her against the door, looking at her with concern.
"Get off me! What are you doing?" Susie angrily pushed him.
"Honey, don't be mad. I'm really worried about you."
Seeing her pale face, Lawrence gently coaxed her, his hand softly caressing her cheek.
"Who cares about your worry? Who's your honey? Lawrence, do you have no shame?"
Susie turned her head away to avoid his touch, but there was nowhere to go in the small space.
The man held her tightly, not letting her escape.
"You're my wife. Susie is my wife!"
Lawrence bent down, pressing his forehead against hers.
"Don't be mad. What you saw wasn't real!"
Susie froze, unsure what he meant. Did he know she had gone to the office?
"Silly girl, why didn't you tell me you were coming to see me?"
He had no idea what had happened.
Lawrence stroked her much thinner face. She had drunk so much soup but hadn't gained any weight.
So he knew.
Susie pushed his hand away, glaring at him, mocking, "If I told you, how could I catch you in the act?"
Lawrence pinned her hands down, looking directly into her eyes.
"Susie, there's nothing between Rachel and me. What you saw was just a part of it. Did you see her forcefully kiss me? Did you see the whole thing?"
"I find it disgusting!" Susie stubbornly turned her head away.
See the whole thing? Watch them get more intimate?
Lawrence sighed. She could be incredibly stubborn.
But he liked that about her.
He bent down and kissed her cheek. Susie glared at him, trying to hit him, but she was pinned too tightly.
"If you had watched a bit longer, you would have seen me push her away!"
Susie froze, not believing him.
Would he really hit a woman?
They had argued so fiercely, and he never hit her.
"I wouldn't hit you!" Seeing her surprise, Lawrence softened his voice, "I love you too much to hurt you."
Susie puffed her cheeks, blocking out his sweet words.
"If you don't believe me, you can ask Finnegan. He saw it. Rachel left covering her face. I've settled the matter. From now on, she's just an employee. No special treatment."
"Nice words. But I saw you two hugging and kissing with my own eyes. How can that be fake?"
Susie shouted, but a bit of doubt crept in. Was Rachel really the instigator?
"You didn't push her away!"
"Seeing isn't always believing. You didn't watch the whole thing. How can you be sure I didn't push her away?" Lawrence was frustrated, finding it hard to explain. "Let me ask you, if Cyrus suddenly kissed you, could you push him away in the first second?"
Thinking of Cyrus kissing her, Lawrence's face darkened.
How could he have expected Rachel to jump on him? It's normal to react a bit late, isn't it?
Susie's eyes flickered, unsure if she should believe him. What if he was lying again?
"Lawrence, we're divorced. Move!" She kicked him.
Lawrence pinned her down and kissed her.
After a long ten minutes, he let her go.
Susie panted, her cheeks red, too exhausted to resist.
"I'll show you the footage from my office. See if I pushed her away or not!"
Lawrence stopped explaining, pulling out his phone to show her the surveillance video.
Susie didn't want to watch.
But she also wanted to know if she had misunderstood. She glanced at the video out of the corner of her eye.
Seeing Rachel initiate the kiss, her eyes widened, then Lawrence pushed her away and angrily slapped her.
Watching the fierce man, she bit her lip, her heart wavering.
So it was Rachel's doing.
"Do you believe me now?"
Lawrence's gaze was intense as he looked at her.
Susie quickly glanced at him, then looked away, "That doesn't mean anything. Can you say you never had any feelings for her?"
If he hadn't encouraged her, would Rachel have acted that way?
Lawrence felt like he was going to explode.
"You're so stubborn I want to spank you!" Lawrence glared at her.
Susie, not backing down, glared back.
Lawrence gave in, pulling her to the bed. Susie tried to shake him off but couldn't.
Lawrence made her sit down, crouching in front of her, looking up at her.
"Before, I did it on purpose. I'm sorry. I won't have any ambiguous relationships with any woman in the future."
Susie lowered her eyes, her mind in turmoil.
Lawrence stroked her face, "I'll give you time. I'll prove it to you. It's almost afternoon. Eat something, okay?"
"Even if you're mad, don't starve yourself. Eat, then you can be mad at me again."
He pinched her cheek, and Susie pushed his hand away.
Lawrence didn't mind, getting up and going downstairs to bring the food.
Susie saw his phone and watched the video again. It was all Rachel's doing, and Lawrence had been cold to her.
Maybe she had misunderstood.
"Come eat!"
Lawrence called, setting the food on the table, pouring a bowl of soup.
"Come on!" he called.
Susie looked at him, "You don't need to try to please me!"
Even if she misunderstood, they were divorced. Lincoln was handling the divorce certificate.
Lawrence's gaze softened, "Finish eating, and I'll leave. I won't bother you."
Susie hesitated, then walked over and started eating.
Watching her eat, Lawrence's gaze was tender. He wiped the corner of her mouth.
"After you eat, rest. Tomorrow I'll take you to the hospital for a follow-up."
"It's not time yet. What follow-up? Besides, we're divorced. I don't need you to take me!" Susie snapped.
Lawrence scratched his nose and stopped talking about it.
Better wait a few days.
With him watching her eat, Susie occasionally glared at him. Lawrence just smiled.
Suddenly, a loud stomach growl broke the silence.
Both of them froze.
Lawrence looked embarrassed.
Facing her gaze, his ears turned red. He stood up and said calmly, "There's still work at the office. I'll go now. Just let the servants clear up after you finish eating."
She had almost finished her meal.
After reminding her, he turned and left.
Susie opened her mouth, but she didn't call him back.
Her mood inexplicably improved, and her appetite grew. She finished all the dishes.
