Susie stayed in the hospital for another week until she fully recovered.
Lawrence came by every day, but she refused to see him.
"Honey, the paperwork is done. Let's go home!"
Today, she was being discharged. He came to pick her up, but Susie acted as if he didn't exist and asked Shawn to take her back to her parents' home.
David still wasn't well and needed to stay in the hospital a while longer.
"Don't worry, I'll take her home first."
Shawn patted Lawrence's shoulder and took Susie home.
When asked, Lawrence couldn't explain why Susie insisted on divorcing him.
He didn't understand what had gone wrong between them. They had cleared up past misunderstandings, but now things were tense again.
Lawrence followed the car to the Morris house.
He watched her walk inside without looking back, feeling a heavy weight in his heart.
But her body was healed, and he should be happy for her.
Lawrence wiped his face and drove to the office, deciding to give her more time.
Maybe after a while, she would come around.
"Susie, take some rest. Don't worry about other things. Don't push yourself too hard!"
Shawn carried her luggage to her bedroom and tried to comfort her.
"Shawn, do you think I'm joking about divorcing him?"
Susie sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Shawn, and suddenly asked.
Shawn gave a wry smile, then asked seriously, "Susie, can you tell me why you insist on divorcing him?"
Even her father wasn't holding Lawrence accountable for what he did. Susie shouldn't be so fixated on this.
Susie looked at him, then lowered her eyes. "He makes me feel like I can't trust him. He's one way in front of me, but another way behind my back!"
Hearing the pain in her voice, Shawn patted her head. What had Lawrence done to make her so desperate?
"Susie, from what I know of him, he's not that kind of person. I'm not just saying this to defend him. If it's because of how he dealt with your father's company, you shouldn't hold onto that. Your father isn't pursuing it, right?"
"If it's because of his relationship with Rachel, I can vouch for him. There's absolutely nothing between them that could be misconstrued!"
Susie's eyes flickered.
Maybe her cousin didn't know the full story.
A man cheating isn't necessarily about feelings.
Maybe he still loved her, but he couldn't give up his inherent flaws.
Seeing she wasn't swayed, Shawn said all he could. Whether she understood or not was up to her.
"Rest well and don't overthink. Call me if you need anything!"
Shawn patted her head again and left.
Susie lay on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Her mind was a mess.
Whenever she felt a bit soft-hearted, she would remember Lawrence kissing that woman, and she couldn't bear to continue with him.
A cold smile appeared on her lips.
After resting at home for a day, the next day, she took her lawyer to see Lawrence.
"Mr. Sutton is on a business trip!"
The secretary informed her. Susie pressed her lips together, realizing a man's words couldn't be trusted.
He had said that when she recovered, she could come find him for a divorce.
"When will he be back?"
"That, I don't know. Sorry! Mr. Sutton didn't say."
Susie didn't trouble the secretary further and left.
Lawrence, if you think hiding will stop me, you're wrong.
"Lincoln, proceed with the lawsuit. No need to wait for him."
She knew Lawrence wouldn't sign the papers. If he wasn't afraid of the shame, then they'd see each other in court.
Lincoln, the lawyer who had worked with the Morris family for many years and had watched Susie grow up, sighed at her determination and went to handle the matter.
