The next day.
Susie woke up and didn't see Lawrence. The light in her eyes dimmed, replaced by a coldness.
There was no need to continue this relationship.
She would give him his freedom, and she would no longer suffer.
In the future, she would adapt to living alone.
Lawrence opened the door and came in. Seeing her awake, he noticed the surprise that flashed in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and turned her head away, ignoring him.
Her face had grown much colder.
He sighed lightly.
He placed the breakfast on the bedside table. "Get up and eat breakfast if you're awake."
Susie ignored him, turning over to face away from him.
Why did he need to pretend to be considerate here? So hypocritical!
Lawrence raised an eyebrow and sat on the edge of the bed. He reached out to pat her arm but noticed she stiffened. His heart tightened.
He withdrew his hand.
"Even if you're going to divorce, you need to eat."
He coaxed her softly, opening the breakfast and calling her, "Come on, get up and eat. It won't taste good if it gets cold."
Susie couldn't stand his act of being a good husband. She sneered coldly, "Lawrence, you don't need to pretend here. I won't change my mind. I'm giving you your freedom. Do whatever you want. Just don't get in my way!"
Lawrence's face changed as he stared at her stubborn face.
What was wrong with this woman? Weren't they fine before?
He had checked the company's surveillance and didn't see her go there. He thought she must have misunderstood something.
Or was it because that man had come back?
The thought made Lawrence feel a surge of jealousy.
"Don't think you can be with Cyrus just because you divorce me!"
He gritted his teeth, his tone full of jealousy.
Susie blinked. Why was he bringing up Cyrus again?
She sat up and glared at him. "What does he have to do with this? I'm divorcing you because of you, to give your woman her place!"
Seeing her get agitated at the mention of Cyrus, Lawrence's face darkened like charcoal. He laughed mockingly, "For me? I think it's for yourself. He's back, and you want to be with him!"
Susie stared at him in disbelief.
He had the nerve to accuse her when he was the one who cheated?
She and Cyrus were just good friends.
"Yes, I'm doing it for him. So what? I'm determined to divorce you!"
Susie raised her chin and yelled back.
Lawrence's eyes turned red, and he suddenly grabbed her chin and kissed her hard.
"In your dreams!"
He bit her lip until it bled.
Furious, Susie hit him.
Lawrence grabbed her hands and held her head in place, his kiss full of punishment.
Unable to break free, Susie stopped struggling and glared at him.
Only when Lawrence was satisfied did he let go of her. He looked at her swollen lips and gently wiped the blood away with his fingers.
"What good does it do to provoke me?"
His scolding tone carried a hint of affection.
Susie stubbornly turned her head away and wiped her mouth hard, trying to erase his taste.
"Disgusting! It's like being bitten by a dog!"
Lawrence's face darkened, and he growled, "Susie, you're something!"
"If you dare to think about divorce again, believe me, I'll destroy the Morris Group!"
Lawrence was so angry his chest hurt.
Susie snorted and fearlessly glared back at him. "Go ahead and try!"
Seeing her determination to divorce, Lawrence's face turned even darker. After a moment, he managed to suppress his anger, and his voice softened.
"As long as you don't divorce me, we can talk about anything."
"Lawrence, do you think this is fun, or do you find it thrilling? Is having an affair the only thing that excites you?" Susie's eyes were filled with hatred, piercing Lawrence's heart.
"Maybe that's how you men are. You need excitement, you need to cheat to feel fulfilled!"
"I've explained it to you. There's nothing between Rachel and me. Why do you keep dwelling on this?"
Lawrence had a headache. What had made her misunderstand again? Or had Rachel come to her?
Lawrence thought that was likely.
He didn't know what to do with her.
This time, she wasn't just making a fuss.
"No matter what Rachel told you, can't you not believe it? She has feelings for me, but I have no feelings for her. I'll keep my distance from her in the future. What do you want me to do for you to believe me?"
"Divorce!" Susie didn't want to say more. No amount of talking would help.
Seeing was believing, and it hurt more than anything.
He acted one way in front of her and another behind her. He was no longer trustworthy.
Lawrence's eyes dimmed. "Don't you feel anything after all these years? Am I that kind of person?"
Lawrence deeply regretted it. He hadn't wanted her to misunderstand. This misunderstanding was a thorn between them that couldn't be removed.
Susie's face showed a mocking expression, her gaze icy. "You've pretended for so many years, all for revenge. How much sincerity can there be? Don't you think it's ridiculous to talk to me about sincerity?"
Lawrence pressed his lips together, letting her vent her anger. In her current extreme state, nothing he said would get through to her.
"Remember to eat breakfast. I have work to do at the company. I'll leave now."
If they continued talking, it would only lead to more arguments.
He really didn't want to argue with her.
Susie saw the sadness in his eyes and clenched her fists, forcing herself to harden her heart.
She bit her lip to keep herself from crying.
