Susie glanced at him and then looked away.
Seeing this, Lawrence's lips curled into a gentle smile as he continued to massage her foot.
"What else did she say? How can you believe a word from a habitual liar?"
Susie turned her gaze to glare at him, her eyes filled with accusations. He was no different.
"Susie, don't believe anything she says. I've been with you for so many years, and the only thing I've kept from you is my plan against your father. Nothing else. I didn't want to have children before because I couldn't get over my desire for avenge..."
Lawrence spoke openly, sharing the complexities in his heart. "It wasn't because I didn't love you. I was afraid that if you found out, you'd hate me, and also hate our child, knowing that their father was taking revenge on their grandfather."
"I've never been with Rachel. She isn't my woman, and that child isn't mine. I felt guilty about my friend, so I indulged her. I was aware of her schemes and manipulations."
"The last time she fell at our house and miscarried, I didn't blame you. I was dealing with your father, so I didn't explain everything to you. It was my fault!"
"I didn't expect her to be so brazen, to try and harm your father, and then our child. I'm sorry!"
Lawrence hugged her tightly, filled with remorse, his voice choked with emotion. "It's my fault I didn't protect you. If I'd acted sooner, our child would still be here..."
Susie's tears flowed freely.
"When you're better, we can have as many children as you want," Lawrence promised, fearing she would fall deeper into despair.
Susie could feel his sincerity, but what about her father and their child?
Would being with her really disgust him, as Rachel had said?
She was the child of his enemy. Didn't he hate her for that?
Seeing her silent and conflicted, Lawrence gently stroked her head.
"I'll give you time. Whatever Rachel said, don't believe it. From now on, I'll keep my distance from her."
Rachel had crossed his line too many times. He wouldn't be lenient with her anymore.
He had helped her all these years, but she was no longer the girl Gavin had loved. Perhaps she had long forgotten Gavin, living in her delusional world.
Seeing the anger flash across his face, Susie thought maybe he was telling the truth.
But the question about her uterus being gone lingered at the tip of her tongue, unspoken.
If it were true, what would she do?
However, Rachel might have said it just to provoke her. Maybe she should ask the doctor.
"I'll restore Morris Inc. to its former glory," Lawrence said, watching her closely, trying to gauge her thoughts.
Susie looked at him, then asked softly, "You're not going to seek revenge anymore?"
If it were her, she would pursue vengeance to the end.
After all, if her father hadn't done what he did, Lawrence's father wouldn't have died, and his mother wouldn't have followed.
"If I continue, will you stay with me?" Lawrence tilted his head, looking intently at her.
If things continued like this and Morris Inc. truly went bankrupt, and if something happened to her father, she would surely hate him forever.
His dad's company went bankrupt during financial crisis back then. It wasn't entirely David's fault. There were many other factors.
Lawrence suddenly had a moment of clarity.
As long as she stayed by his side, everything could be worked out.
Susie looked away, picking at her fingers, and asked quietly, "Being with me, don't you feel hate? Don't you feel disgusted?"
Lawrence's eyes softened as he smiled. He pulled her close and kissed her...
