Since I got pregnant, I rarely went out. Xavier said staying home all day wasn't good for my health. I just smiled and continued to refuse.
At night, he insisted on taking me for a walk, but my attention was on the passing cars. Seeing my distracted state, Xavier asked if something was bothering me.
I pretended to nod: "Yes, this one in my belly are bother me." Xavier chuckled, put his arm around me, and kissed my forehead.
When Chelsea came to visit, she brought lots of supplements. With a bright smile, I linked my arm with hers and said, "When the baby's born, you'll be its godmother." Chelsea wrinkled her nose: "No thanks, I hate kids."
"What if it's a very well-behaved child?"
"Still hate it. I hate all kids equally, no exceptions." Chelsea emphasized.
"Oh, by the way, let me tell you some good news." She leaned in and whispered in my ear, "Lindsay had a fight with her husband, moved out, and wanted to ask your husband for help. Guess what?"
"What?" I asked, following her lead.
"Your husband found out that she was the one who drugged you that day, and he has evidence. Lindsay was terrified." Chelsea chuckled at her own words.
I slammed the table angrily: "I knew it was her!"
"Hindsight," Chelsea sneered.
"And what happened next?"
"She got sent to the police station." Chelsea and I locked eyes.
We laughed until our faces hurt.
