The bar bustled with noise and excitement. My close friend Chelsea burst into laughter upon hearing my words. "My dear Yvonne, is it possible he's only nice to you because of the baby in your belly?" she quipped. "You're carrying his child, He should be good to you just for the child's sake, right? What's there to agonize over?"
I reiterated my thoughts, "But, he really resembles the boyfriend I had in college."
"Impossible," Chelsea asserted firmly. "Although I don't remember your ex, I'm sure it wasn't Xavier. Xavier was a big shot in the finance department in college. If you dated someone so prominent, how could I forget? Besides, your majors were in the farthest corners of the school, so there was no chance of meeting, right?"
"Furthermore," she continued, "if Xavier was that guy, given how terrible you were back then, he would have surely sought revenge on you. How could he still be so good to you?"
I retorted indignantly, "Who was terrible? I only dated him, and I only kissed him!"
Chelsea chuckled. I looked down and sent messages to other friends. The result was consistent: all my friends remembered my past relationships, but none could recall the name or appearance of that guy.
I closed my eyes and let out a long sigh. This matter was simply perplexing.
"What's the point of dwelling on this, Miss? Instead of worrying about that, why not find out who drugged your drink?" Chelsea suggested.
"I can't find out," I slumped hopelessly onto the sofa.
"Seriously, aren't you suspicious of Lindsay in this matter?" Chelsea exclaimed.
I looked up at the dazzling lights above me, silent.
Now, not only was Lindsay the wife of the CEO, but she was also the unattainable love of Xavier, the second male lead.
If I dared to act, these two would surely take me down in a heartbeat. In just a minute, I had weighed all the pros and cons.
Oh well, it doesn't matter. Whatever.
