As my academic workload intensified, my visits to his shop became less frequent. On one occasion, after a major exam, I returned to find his tattoo parlor swarmed with trendily dressed beauties, and I suddenly regretted not changing my best clothes before coming.
It turned out that following a visit from a popular lifestyle blogger, hordes of people flocked to his store.
Some genuinely interested in getting inked, others simply captivated by his undeniable coolness.Even in simple black T-shirt, his magnetic presence drawing all eyes.
Upon seeing me, they remarked, "This must be Ethan's little sister."
Never had I detested being referred to as 'sister' more than in that instant.
"Where's Ethan?" I asked.
Ethan emerged, his hair a bit longer which casually covered his handsome brows. With a faint lift of his thin eyelids and a sidelong glance, his lips curved into a rogue's smile.
"Well, who do we have here?"
"Sophia," I replied.
He teased, "I thought the top student forgot about me."
"Just checking up on you. Didn't expect you to be doing so well."
"Yeah," he said nonchalantly, refusing to deny it.
Inside, anger simmered within me.
A few of the girls approached me curiously, "You're his sister, right? Can you get me your brother's contact information? I'll give you a hundred dollars if you succeed."
Feeling guilty, I lied, "No,I can't can do that. My brother said he won't date until he's thirty."
They relented somewhat but continued their attempts to flirt him. Eventually, they each came to me dejectedly, "Your brother is so aloof, not even a word beyond necessity."
I struggled to appear indifferent. "He's usually quite gentle with me."
"That's because you're different. He told us you're his sister."
"I'm not his sister, I'm..."
Turning around, I found Ethan standing behind me with a knowing half-smile, rendering me speechless. I promptly pretended to work on my homework, scribbling on the paper.
My heart raced, too afraid to look up.
He stopped beside me. "Hey, why are you writing math formulas on your English workbook?"
I bluffed, "Mind your own business, will ya?"
