Dusk settled over the scene.
I pulled my suitcase out of the housing complex gate.
"Sophia, come here."
My heart jolted violently. I looked up, and my nose tingled with sudden sadness as I hurried towards him. "Ethan."
Under the dim streetlights, the man wore a thin black jacket with a half-lit cigarette between his fingers. The city's neon lights blazed brightly behind him.
He grinned, "You came when I called you. Aren't you afraid I'll kidnap you?"
"I'm not afraid. Just take me away."
"Give me your suitcase."
But just then, a car sped past, erasing Ethan's figure in an instant. My smile froze on my lips as I looked around. I felt disoriented and lost, searching for him. "Ethan..."
It was autumn now. Leaves drifted down. Where could I find his silhouette?
It was just an illusion.
For a moment, I thought he had really come for me...
A car stopped by the roadside, and out stepped my sister, looking healthier than she had in days.
She saw me crying and approached with surprise, "Sophia, why are you crying so hard? What happened?"
"Are the two of you having a spat even though you're about to get married? Is it because of me?"
I turned away to wipe away tears at the corner of my eyes.
"Don't read too much into it. How are you feeling?"
"I'm much better, thanks to your fiancé's meticulous care these past few days. He cooked me all sorts of nutritious meals. You're going to be blessed marrying him."
I nodded. "Yes, that blessing, I'll pass it on to you."
Her expression changed. "What do you mean? Are you deliberately trying to provoke me after you know I just got divorced?"
"Don't think too much into it. You're his unreachable love, he adores you. You two should get together quickly."
Clearing the air at this moment was what I needed most, to avoid being entangled in their tumultuous affair.
I hailed a taxi approaching in the distance.
"Really, Sophia, you don't have to mock me like that," she suddenly exclaimed behind me.
I was exasperated. She considered this mocking?
"I don't need your blessings either, understand? All I have to do is stand there, and Luke will love me. I don't have to do anything."
I glanced at her indifferently. "Well, I wish you happiness in your remarriage then."
With that, I smiled faintly at her and got into the taxi.
Her attempt at provocation failed. She was left speechless. "You…"
