Undercurrents simmered in the car during the tense journey to the bridal shop.
Trying on the first wedding dress, I emerged from the fitting room.
Luke was still engrossed in conversation with my sister, not noticing me until the sales assistant praised my appearance.
I smiled at him, my eyes meeting his. "Beautiful, very beautiful. Let's go with this one."
I clenched my fist, "This one?"
My sister flicked her hair, "Come on, that's too casual. Try some more."
Suddenly, Richard, my sister's ex-husband, burst in.
Grabbing her wrist, he glared angrily, "You tricked me into signing divorce papers when I was drunk last night! How dare you?"
My sister hid behind Luke, "You signed them yourself. Leave me alone."
Luke lunged at him, landing two punches on his face. "You're divorced, how dare you harass her again? Get lost!"
Richard was knocked to the floor, accidentally colliding with me in my heels.
I stumbled and fell. I twisted my ankle with a sharp pain.
Luke seized Richard by the collar, forcing him out.
Turning back to my sister, he rushed to her side, "Sister, are you okay?"
The sales assistant helped me up, her expression complicated, "Mr. Goodman, Miss Hathaway seems to have sprained her ankle."
Only then did he come to check on me. But in the next moment, my sister fainted.
Without hesitation, he turned to her, lifting her up, "Sophia, I'll take your sister to the hospital first. Please manage here by yourself for now."
"Alright, remember to come back."
My foot hurt, but I could stand and limp along.
The sales assistant asked hesitantly, "Miss Hathaway, shall we try on more dresses?"
"No need, maybe another time."
Predictably, Luke didn't return to the shop that day. He told me to rest at home, explaining that my sister was weak and needed hospitalizatio. He would stay at the hospital to care for her.
