In the afternoon, Luke called me, asking me to come downstairs.
Opening the car door, I found my sister sitting in the passenger seat.
He explained, "I bumped into your sister downstairs. She offered to lend her advice for your wedding dress."
There was an unexplained nick on his lip. My sister's lips were also red, her lipstick slightly smudged.
She chimed in, "Yes, I'll help you pick out the best. I have a good eye for these things."
I nodded indifferently, "Sure, you're quite experienced."
Sensing my unexpectedly tepid response, she added, "I get a bit carsick; sitting in the front makes it more bearable. You don't mind, do you?"
Before I could respond, Luke interjected, "What's there to mind? A seat's a seat, right, Hathaway?"
"Mm-hmm."
Midway through the drive, my sister suddenly announced, "Oh, by the way, I have some good news to share. I got divorced."
The car braked abruptly, pitching me forward.
Luke's voice was hoarse as he asked, "You're divorced?"
My sister smiled, "Yes, I have divorced. We couldn't make it work. I wanted a fresh start."
Luke stared at her intently, their exchange resembling a drama scene. I interrupted, "What are we waiting for? Why aren't we moving?"
