Landon insisted on joining Amber for dinner, unwilling to waste any moment of their time together on the journey, including the challenging and perilous mission in africa where he vowed to protect her every step of the way.
He resolved to shield Amber from any harm, taking sole responsibility for her safety regardless of Mr Winter.
These thoughts filled Landon with joy, causing him to grin foolishly.
Amber found Landon's recent behavior peculiar, now caught up in his own world, chuckling at his plate.
She refrained from commenting, finding her appetite sapped by sitting beside this eccentricity.
Landon was unconcerned; most aboard were elderly philanthropists or seasoned sailors. They were the young ones, free to be less stern.
Moreover, Landon had restrained himself for too long; this respite allowed him to unwind a bit too much.
After the dinner, Landon dogged Amber's steps relentlessly.
Amber struggled to reprimand him for being clingy, unable to interject amidst his chatter!
"Amber, there's a pool on the ship, do you want to take a dip?"
"Better not after eating. A stroll on the deck sounds better."
"Look, Amber, stars! Is that Polaris? It's been ages since I saw stars."
Amber was on the verge of losing it. Landon talk more and more.Where was Landon's usual icy demeanor?
"Why are you so talkative?" Amber snapped, halting abruptly. Landon nearly collided with her.
Landon beamed. "Just want to talk more with you!"
Through gritted teeth, Amber hissed, "I'm going to rest, goodbye!"
She stormed off, slamming the door behind her.
Landon chuckled wryly, realizing his path to winning her back would be a long one. But it didn't matter; Amber giving him another chance was a blessing.
He would persevere.
Alone at the railing, Landon gazed at the twinkling stars, oblivious to the looming danger.
Night deepened.
Landon fell asleep.
The ship was quiet save for the occasional patrolling sailors, the silence punctuated only by the faintest sounds.
In the darkness, a vessel shadowed Landon's ship from a distance, preparing to close in.
"If we sail closer, we would be spotted. I'll switch to a dinghy. Under the cover of night, with poor visibility, we'll sneak aboard."
"I'm coming too, brother."
It was long-conceived Ethan and freshly escaped Penelope.
Penelope's escape hadn't been simple; Ethan had orchestrated it all, intending not only to liberate her but to witness the demise of her enemy firsthandedly.
"It's too dangerous for you. Stay back and watch the fireworks."
Penelope, disheveled and barely recognizable, insisted, "No, I must go. No matter the risk, I need to see them perish with my own eyes!"
"You won't survive it, and I'm not confident I will either."
"Then I can't let you go alone. Please, brother, take me with you. I won't rest until I see them dead!"
Under the moonlight, two figures boarded a small boat, silently closing in on the giant ship.
