"Sawyer..." Amber tugged gently on the corner of Sawyer's jacket from behind, her eyes brimming with tears. "I'll go to the dressing roomfirst."
Sawyer patted her head compassionately. "Go ahead, I'll call for you once this is sorted out."
Sawyer understood that Amber would struggle to endure such public humiliation and wanted to hide. Without a hint of suspicion, he agreed, confident in the safety provided by the people of AmSawyer Creations.
Amber nearly ran away.
As soon as she turned around, all traces of hurt and teary eyes vanished, replaced by a chillingly cold demeanor. Her transformation was swift, like flipping a page.
Away from the scene, she didn't need to pretend anymore.
While Sawyer argued fervently on Amber's behalf, presenting evidence, Amber fled to the dressing room.
Rummaging through her clothes she wore before the wedding gown, she hastily packed and was about to escape through the window when a knock sounded on the door.
Amber asked tensely, "Who is it?"
Outside, the commotion continued; Sawyer couldn't have settled things so quickly. Who would be knocking?
There was no answer.
Amber hesitated but decided to ignore it and escape. She could avoid any blame for whatever was happening outside.
Resolute, she ignored the increasingly urgent knocks, even twisting her ankle as she jumped out the window. The quieting wedding scene urged her to hurry.
Faster, faster...
Just as she neared the exit, a chill ran down her spine as a pair of strong hands gripped her wrist.
Amber was terrified, her mind instantly crafting excuses: she couldn't bear the scene, she was unworthy to marry him, every falsehood ready.
Turning around, it wasn't Sawyer but—Landon!
Why? Landon always appeared in moments of crisis!
"Let me go!" Amber hissed. "I'm not in the mood for nostalgia today."
"Where are you going?" Landon asked, concerned despite his objections to her marrying Sawyer.
He vowed to protect her, even if she never forgave him, to watch from afar, even if she became another man's wife.
Moreover, Amber was clearly trying to flee. Though unaware of the cause, Landon was pleased.
He just wanted to follow her, wherever she went.
"What's it to you?" Amber snapped, growing increasingly anxious inside.
Landon handed her a cleaner's uniform. "Put this on?"
Amber froze, then snatched it and roughly dressed herself.
Landon adjusted her hair, smiling. "Wherever you go, take me with you."
Amber wouldn't agree, but before she could object, Landon warned, "Otherwise, If I noticed Sawyer, and you won't get far."
A blatant threat! But Amber had no choice; she was desperate to leave. Landon, sensing this, grinned at her.
She glared. "Follow if you must, but don't interfere. If you expose me, Landon, I'll make your life miserable!"
With messy hair hiding her makeup, Amber donned the cleaner's coat and hurried forward, head down.
