No sooner had they taken the stage than whispers nearby Landon discussed how well-matched the couple appeared.
He endured the pain, pretending not to hear, yet his attention uncontrollably drifted, eager to catch every word.
Suddenly, a dissenting voice arose:
"But three years ago, didn’t Amber climb into Mr. Rhodes’ bed herself?"
The comment was met with a jarring interruption, drawing many gazes.
People around Landon glanced his way, noting shattered glass and a puddle of water beneath his table, a cup presumably knocked over in a moment of carelessness.
Landon frowned, his gaze darkening towards the speaker.
The speaker realized the blunder and fell silent, trying to blend back into the crowd.
Others were merely curious, finding nothing more, and returned their attention to the stage.
Only Landon, after two minutes, stood up silently, approached the speaker, towering over him, his gaze menacing.
The speaker swallowed hard, reassuring himself internally, I didn't say anything wrong, what's there to fear?
Yet his voice trembled, "Is there something you need, Mr. Rhodes?"
"Apologize," Landon gritted out.
The speaker, a small boss himself, wouldn't lose face publicly.
So, he stiffened his neck, "What should I apologize for? If there's anything that displeased you, please specify."
Landon didn't bother explaining, shouting louder, "Apologize!"
This attracted more attention. Landon's height made him stand out in the crowd, and his thunderous command even reached Amber on stage.
Event organizers noticed the disturbance and dispatched personnel to mediate.
Landon was resolute, demanding an apology or no resolution.
Amber and Sawyer finished their presentation and rushed down to see what transpired.
"Amber, this person slandered you," Landon stated.
Amber was baffled. With her reputation, slanderers were aplenty. Why was Landon taking it seriously? Besides, wasn't her defamation all because of him?
To maintain order, they were escorted to a private room for resolution.
Amber and Sawyer exchanged looks and followed, but at the door, Amber held Sawyer back:
"This doesn't involve you. You stay here and wait for me."
Sawyer shrugged nonchalantly. He didn't believe Amber would be swayed by Landon anymore.
Indeed, Amber's gaze remained cold upon entering.
"I heard this involves me?" Amber casually sat, exuding a carefree female lead's aura.
Landon repeated, "Amber, this person slandered you behind your back. I demand an apology."
The boss, at this point, should have apologized, but emboldened for unknown reason, retorted:
"What I said was the truth. The whole city knows about Miss Nolan's affair before noon. Everyone witnessed it. Why should I apologize?"
Landon's eyes reddened with rage, nearly resorting to violence.
Amber was the one who restrained him.
