"Ethan, kill that woman!" Penelope lost control, wanting to pounce forward but restrained by bound limbs, resorting to calling out to Ethan.
Ethan, still retaining some reason, engaged in a brief standoff with Sawyer before releasing Amber.
"Ethan, Ethan! Kill her! I'd gladly die with her!" Penelope's words dripped with resentment towards Amber, blaming her for everything she'd become today!
Sawyer silenced her with a gag, his body shielding her from view, offering Amber a reassuring glance.
"Amber!" Landon below had already exited his car, closing in fast.
Amber, just comprehending the situation, felt a sudden tug at her heart upon hearing Landon's anxious cry.
Ethan glanced down at Landon, turning back to find Sawyer had already half-hoisted Penelope over the edge.
Ethan’s heart clenched, blurting out in panic, "Stop it! Sawyer, I warn you... Penelope! Penelope!"
It was too late.
With a smirk, as if enjoying a twisted game, Sawyer let go, challenging Ethan with his gaze.
Ethan, without hesitation, followed suit a split second later, tossing Amber down.
Only when he released her did he realize Landon was below, close to both women—precisely what Sawyer had wanted!
His rigged game of certain defeat!
But it was too late.
Women's screams pierced the air.
"Amber—"
All Landon saw were two silhouettes, one on each side.
Without pausing to identify, he instinctively sprinted towards Amber.
Those seconds in mid-air seemed like centuries.
Amber had secretly loosened her ropes earlier, now free to move. Leaping down unharmed was feasible.
Yet, seeing Landon rush towards her without hesitation, she changed her mind, staying put.
His anxious, tense gaze grew larger in her vision. It was like a dream, descending from the sky to land in Landon's arms.
Warm embrace.
On the other side, Penelope cried Landon's name but she couldn't even a glance back.
"Landon! Save me, Landon! Landon!"
A thud echoed as the only response for her.
Three stories high, not too tall, and Penelope hadn't hit concrete, likely surviving.
But that height killed something else.
Penelope's devotion to landon.
Physical pain was nothing compared to the heartache when she saw Landon recklessly dive to catch Amber, tears streaming.
I've loved you so long, why can't you see it? I've sacrificed so much for you, don't you feel anything?
Landon's eyes were solely on Amber, giving his all to reach her, willing to cushion her fall with his own body.
Not this time. I won't let you get hurt again.
All happened in a sudden. When Ethan came to his senses, he discovered that Penelope had passed out..
"Sawyer!" Ethan lunged for a fight, but Sawyer had already slipped away.
He rushed downstairs, approaching the bloodied Penelope.
Foam at her mouth, she had at least 3-4 fractures, limbs contorted, she looked pitiful.
Sawyer observed coldly from a distance, muttering "reap what you sow" before departing.
Ethan glared at him, vowing a thousandfold retaliation against these individuals!
"Penelope, don't be afraid... Brother's here, I'll take you away..."
Penelope's heart was dead.
