Chapter 11

　　Penelope was genuinely startled, this time truly crying. "Landon, I don't know what's making you so upset..."
　　Picking up the papers, her eyes fell on the evidence, her mask slipping, a pained expression freezing on her face. "This, Landon! I don't know what these are! Let me explain!"
　　"Explain? How could you explain this?" Landon advanced on her. "The proof is written black and white, what more can you argue!"
　　"I'm sorry! Landon, I did this because I love you so much!" Penelope, terrified, fell to her knees, clutching Landon's pants leg, looking absolute pitiful.
　　"The drugs, they were, were, Amber made me buy! You're my fiancé, why would I do that!"
　　"I see! She made it up to frame me! The recording too, to break us up! Landon, you believe me..."
　　Landon was stunned, never had he felt Penelope so foreign, as if he never truly knew her.
　　No matter what Penelope said, he seemed deaf, simply shaking his head. "I won't believe you anymore."
　　They were engaged for three years.
　　Planning to marry once Penelope recovered, now it seemed meaningless.
　　"Leave. I'll hand these to the police. They'll decide."
　　Penelope was struck, clinging to Landon's pants. "No, no..."
　　Landon pulled away harshly.
　　That woman was truly innocent. Amber suffered the most all along
　　Landon's heart ached, Amber's disheveled appearance and despair flashing in his mind.
　　And her words, "You'll regret it, you will!"
　　The wedding preparations were in vain. Landon called Nolan family elders to apologize.
　　Unexpectedly, he received shocking news.
　　"Penelope framed her sister, faked her illness, leading to Amber and the child's death. Such a woman, I can't marry."
　　"If this cancellation brings negative impact, I, Landon, will bear it, but this marriage cannot proceed."
　　The elder seemed incredulous. "Framed her sister? How? They were close, they once exchanged bracelets."
　　Mentioned casually, Landon remembered it vividly.
　　"Wait, they exchanged bracelets? When?"
　　"Seems like when Amber turned eighteen. After the unfortunate events, they stopped contact. We've cut ties with Amber. Now Mr. Rhodes accuses Penelope?"
　　An Elder was displeased. While the Rhodes family was prominent, Nolan wasn't one to be bullied.
　　Landon nearly blacked out, something hitting him hard. He didn't recall how he ended the call.
　　He came to senses when the assistant called his name repeatedly.
　　"What's wrong? Why are you crying and laughing at the window." The assistant was concerned.
　　Landon just shook his head silently.
