Darkness clouded Landon's vision, his heart ached so intensely he couldn't breathe. He pressed against his chest.
His assistant, who had hurriedly driven over, supported him.
"Go, inquire about the deceased's identity! Hurry and find out!" Before passing out, Landon fixated on the crowd below.
"Mr. Rhodes, it's confirmed, the deceased is indeed Miss Nolan."
The assistant stood by the hospital bed, nervously watching the gloomy man.
"Impossible, it can't be her. Find her, turn the hospital upside down if you must!"
Landon gritted his teeth, repeating coldly.
The assistant sighed, about to leave but encountered Penelope, coming to pay to visit to amber.
Penelope covered her mouth, sobbing quietly as she entered.
"Landon, Amber is gone. I didn't expect her to be so desperate. It's all because of me. If I hadn't found her with the doctor, she wouldn't have been so shocked."
Despite her words, Penelope's eyes were dry, merely putting on a show.
Landon finally turned his stiff neck towards teary-eyed Penelope.
For some reason, he saw no remorse or sadness in her eyes, but a hint of delight.
"What about the child?"
"What child?" Penelope pretended not to know.
"The one Amber bore, how could he die?"
Detecting the blame in his tone, Penelope's eyes flashed with malice, yet her face remained pitiful,
"I'm sorry, Landon, it's all my fault. If I hadn't gotten sick... I've harmed amber's child... I'm the one who deserves to die!"
Somehow, Landon felt no sympathy for Penelope's act, only aversion.
"Just a bone marrow transplant, how could he die? How?"
"I don't know... I don't know, Landon," Penelope's eyes darted around, "Didn't Doctor... tell you?"
In panic, Penelope shifted the blame to Keaton.
Landon's eyes flickered, "Go! Bring Keaton here!"
"Yes!"
Landon held his forehead, the image of Amber leaping from the roof haunting his mind.
"Accpet my condolence, Landon!" Penelope sniffled, "Don't trust Keaton entirely, after all, he and my sister—"
Landon glared, and Penelope fell silent.
The assistant soon led a trembling Keaton over, and Penelope quickly warned him with a look. Landon noticed this.
He signaled the assistant, who understood and led Penelope out.
Penelope glared at Keaton before leaving.
Are not provoke both of them, Keatan pretending not to notice the hint.
"Explain! How could someone die from surgery? Did you tamper with the child's death!" Landon's tone grew ominous, frightening Keaton into near prostration.
"I didn't, Mr. Rhodes! How dare I!" Keaton regretted his momentary lust, angering the Mr. Rhodes and risking his life!
"And I told you, you said you'd take responsibility..."
Before he could finish his excuse, Landon slammed the table,
"Two lives lost, do you think the hospital can escape? Do you think I'll shield you?"
Keaton's legs weakened, nearly kneeling for mercy.
"Sorry, Mr. Rhodes! I was forced! Spare me!"
Truly an inferior doctor, crumbling under slight pressure.
"Tell me the whole truth! I might spare your life."
"It was Penelope! All her scheme! Not my fault!"
Landon was stunned!
"In fact, amber didn't seduce me, it was Penelope's arrangement! The one who tempted me was also—"
Keaton thought carefully, "Yes! Penelope has a mole on her chest! You surely know!"
"And! And Amber's seduction of you was her plan! The purpose is to gain Nolan Family's sole heiress position!"
"Once achieved, she plotted for Rhodes Family's wealth..." Keaton feared Landon's wrath.
"Also, Penelope's illness was fabricated."
Landon's expression was stormy, unable to fathom Penelope as such a woman...
Or perhaps, this was Amber's final scheme?
Incensed, he turned pale, waving Keaton off.
