Chapter 3

　　"Is that enough?" 
　　Landon was about to speak.
　　A doctor arriving on the scene interrupted: "The bone marrow is a perfect match. We can prepare for the operation soon."
　　Landon's hesitation vanished instantly—it was all for Penelope.
　　"Prepare for the surgery immediately. No delays."
　　The doctor hesitated, "But the child is weak. A bone marrow transplant might endanger his life."
　　Landon froze, feeling a strange sensation, but Penelope's pale face lingered in his mind...
　　"Prepare for the surgery. I'll take responsibility for any consequences."
　　Hearing this, Amber broke down.
　　"Landon! You lied to me! You said you'd spare Sunny if I did this!"
　　"I never promised you anything."
　　His cold, heartless words left Amber dizzy, and she passed out.
　　When she woke, she was in a hospital bed, with a nurse administering a sedative.
　　"Let me go! I need to save my child! Sunny can't undergo the transplant; you'll be punished for this!"
　　Amber pushed the nurse aside and rushed out the door.
　　Fleeing blindly, she intended to find Sunny's room but stumbled into the doctor's office instead.
　　Inside, a man and a woman were embracing, naked.
　　"Penelope, are we really using that child's bone marrow? But you're not sick. Although I manage the hospital, if we do the surgery and the child die, the truth will eventually come out."
　　"Just do it. So what if I'm not sick? Landon believes my days are numbered, which is why he treats me so well. That bastard should never have been born; now, he gets what he deserves."
　　Penelope's voice grew clearer. Resting in the arms of the doctor, her cheeks flushed, she looked anything but sick.
　　"Why did you plot against your sister and send Amber to Landon's bed back then? We wouldn't be in this mess if you didn't do that ."
　　"Hmph, if I hadn't plotted against Amber, I wouldn't be the sole heiress to the Nolan family now. Once that child is gone, we'll have no more worries."
　　Amber overheard everything in hiding.
　　It was Penelope's scheme all along!
　　Landon had treated her so well, yet she was involved with this doctor! Now, she wanted Sunny dead!
　　She had to tell Landon about this!
　　Just then, the pursuing nurse from the ward appeared outside, shouting about a patient escaping.
　　Alerted, enelope and the doctor hastily dressed. Amber tried to flee, but the doctor spotted her, blocking the door.
　　He glared at her menacingly, "You saw everything?"
　　Amber panicked but glanced at Penelope, suddenly composed.
　　"You designed it all! You don't love Landon at all. If he knew about your affair, would he still believe you?
　　Penelope sauntered over, leisurely dressing herself.
　　"Do you think Landon will believe a woman of ill repute like you or me?"
　　"Now that you've seen it, I can't let you live. Amber, you should have disappeared long ago!"
　　Penelope produced a scalpel from somewhere, lunging towards Amber.
