I saw Ethan struggling to control himself. My father berated Ethan for his changed demeanor after the accident, which others found reasonable, aligning with my father.
Until Ethan commanded, "Mrs. Banks, retrieve the surveillance footage from the hall."
Emma panicked at the mention of the footage, frantically looking at my father, who was also flustered. "Why do you need the footage?" he asked.
Ethan ignored him.
My father barked at Mrs. Banks, "No need for footage..."
"Here, I decide!" my mother interrupted, her aura intimidating. "Mrs. Banks, show the footage."
"Yes, ma'am."
Realizing the inevitable, Emma scrambled to her feet, "If Ethan and the family don't welcome me, I'll leave, I will..."
"Nobody leaves until my sister's name is cleared!" Ethan barked. Paralyzed though he was, his upbringing by my mother imbued him with authority.
Emma silenced, my father hesitated but ultimately held his tongue.
The footage revealed Emma's deliberate act and her false accusation. Public sentiment reversed. Emma faced a verbal onslaught.
"Send her away!" my mother ordered, "I don't want to see her again!"
"No, I won't go..." Emma crumbled at the prospect of leaving her newfound luxury and status.
She cherished her life as a harper heiress, a stark contrast to what she shared with her mother.
Dad, cautious of revealing flaws, hadn't provided Emma and her mother much before.
"I won't do it again, please, give me another chance," Emma sobbed.
Had her true colors not been exposed, she might have fooled us again.
My mother refused to acknowledge her, "Away with her, I don't want her to tarnish the reputation of our house."
"Dad, please..." Emma pleaded.
My father wasn't foolish.
Knowing Emma's uselessness, he severed ties swiftly, "I misjudged you. I'll send you away now."
To my mother, he added, "I didn't expect her deceit. I'll remove her now, don't be upset."
My mother chuckled, regarding my father as a clown.
Thinking she was simply angry, he dragged Emma away without second thoughts.
While my father loved his childhood sweetheart and their child deeply, money mattered more. Otherwise, he wouldn't have abandoned his sweetheart for wealth.
Emma's expulsion spelled no good fortune. Father would blame her for everything.
But to us, it mattered little.
Our focus was ensuring he lost it all, receiving his just deserts.
