Ultimately, I found myself tossed into the swimming pool. Here, amidst rugged mountains and wilderness, there was no sea to be found.
Thirty minutes later, I clambered out, drenched. I returned to my original spot and sat there, awaiting my fate.
They were playing cards.
Nathaniel shot a glance at me, nonchalantly played a card without acknowledging me further.
Others noticed me and began to whisper.
"Boss, she's from the city. Won't she catch a cold being this wet?"
"Yeah, city folk, they go to the hospital for a paper cut."
I sat uneasily, not daring to breathe too loudly.
"So concerned, why don't I make her your wife?"
"Boss..."
"It looks to me like you're not here for money, but for the ladies."
He shot a displeased look at the group.
Everyone fell silent.
His gaze returned to me. "What are you doing sitting there?"
"Ah."
I stood up, at a loss, moving to sit on a stool beside.
"Go take a shower. If you get sick, there's no hospital around here." He got up, lighting a cigarette and stormed out, grumbling, "So high-maintenance city lady. The bathroom is on the left, and don't touch my clothes!"
Feeling wronged and on the brink of tearing, I whimpered, "Okay."
He was so fierce.
