Chapter 1

　　In a shabby rental apartment, a man sat with his black hat pulled low over his eyes, his muscular frame evident and a tattoo of an eagle etched onto his arm.
　　"You know what to say once the call goes through, don't you?"
　　"Yeah."
　　My life—was hanging by a thread.
　　The phone call connected.
　　"Your daughter, Felicity, is with me..."
　　"Dad... it's Fe--"
　　Click. The line went dead the moment he heard my name.
　　He dialed again.
　　"I don't have money, you can keep her."
　　Another attempt, only to find my father's phone now switched off.
　　Eyes from every corner of the room were fixed on me.
　　"Nathaniel, what do we do now?" They all looked to him.
　　It was later that I learned his name was Nathaniel.
　　Nathaniel glanced at me, extinguished his cigarette, and spoke in a parched voice, "Dump her in the sea."
