The nauseating feeling in my stomach was uncontrollable, "Ugh," I vomited the sour filth onto those men.
With a slap, I was fiercely struck across the face. The blow was strong, leaving a taste of blood in my mouth and a ringing in my ears.
"Pathetic! Acting all high and mighty."
The rough voice of the man barked in a shout.
Now free, I ignored the pain on my face and huddled tightly in a corner, shivering uncontrollably from fear, my eyes warily watching these sleazy men.
"Strip this wretch completely, let's have some fun, brothers," one of the men gave a lewd glance to his accomplice.
They lunged at me in unison, "Ah..." I screamed in terror.
"Bang!" The decrepit door was kicked open, and a group of bodyguards stormed in.
The sleazy men who had accosted me were now writhing in pain on the ground.
"Get away... go... don't touch me..."
It seemed I couldn't see the danger had passed; I was still struggling in pain, trembling in fear, screaming in panic.
It wasn't until I fell into a familiar, warm embrace that I began to calm down slowly. Clutching tightly at the shirt on his chest, my voice trembled uncertainly, "Evan?"
Even though I sensed his presence, in my despair, I feared it was merely a hallucination.
"It's me, don't be afraid!" Evan's voice carried a distinct tenderness.
Perhaps his gentleness was too enticing, I couldn't resist lifting my head, and as I saw his handsome face, tears immediately began to fall.
I had never longed for someone as much as I did at that moment for Evan.
"Why did you take so long to come, how could you take so long, do you know how scared I was..." My hands pounded on Evan’s chest, and my tense nerves finally relaxed at that moment.
"It's my fault, I arrived too late, I'm sorry, so sorry."
Evan gently cradled my face, his eyes moved across my swollen cheeks showing pain, guilt, remorse, and many more emotions that were hard to distinguish. He didn't despise my current disheveled state and tenderly kissed the tears from my face.
With his presence enveloping me, my body no longer trembled with fear.
"It's alright now, don't be afraid, with me here, no one can hurt you anymore." The first part of his statement was filled with all his tenderness, while the latter part revealed a glint of sinister intent in his eyes.
My shoulders felt heavy as his jacket, carrying his warmth, was draped over me, and then he lifted me into his arms. I snuggled obediently into his embrace, no longer resisting.
As we approached the door, I saw Megan lying on the floor, her face covered in blood.
Her dead eyes lit up when she saw us leaving. Her gaze fixed intensely on Evan, her voice filled with sorrow, "Evan, if it weren't for those three years Avery interfered, would you love me, would you still want me?"
Megan was no longer the arrogant bully she used to be. Instead, she seemed to lower herself to the dust.
Her abject demeanor reminded me of the years I was madly in love with Evan, yet I felt no pity for her. I could not forget the malicious deeds this woman had committed against me and my family. Towards her, I felt nothing but hatred.
Unsure of what he, who once held this woman dear, was thinking now, I looked up at Evan's face...
