Chapter 37

　　The operating room doors swung open, and a masked doctor declared, "The surgery was a success."
　　Relief washed over me as my heart settled back into place. Holding my grandfather's icy hand, I inadvertently caught a glimpse of Evan’s pale face. My heart softened momentarily, and I forced myself to look away.
　　I had prepared porridge at home and brought it in a thermos. Entering the hospital room, I saw Evan dressing, his waist marked by a deep surgical scar.
　　I carried the porridge in and placed it on the table.
　　I had some awareness of the news. The headlines were filled with reports about jewelry subsidiary of Evan's company releasing severely radioactive jewels into the market and various ‘proofs’ of the group's tax evasion. Mysteriously, His PR department remained silent, letting the onslaught of negative coverage spread unchecked.
　　Now, the police had arrived as well.
　　I was unsure if Holly was responsible for this. Originally, I had only intended to leak Huaying Group's trade secrets to Holly to undermine the company. I never envisioned it escalating to this extent.
　　My mind was a whirlwind; I barely grasped what the police and Evan discussed. When Evan’s hands were cuffed, my eyes narrowed sharply, and I froze, motionless.
