Evan pressed his lips tightly together, his handsome face betraying little emotion.
Under his intense gaze, I smiled and held his face. He didn't push my hands away. Drawing him closer, I whispered against his lips, "Evan, have you already fallen for me?"
He just gazed at me deeply without denying it.
Releasing Evan, I collapsed back onto the hospital bed and burst into manic laughter.
Evan seemed to snap back to reality then. His face turned cold as he spoke without emotion, "Avery, you overestimate yourself. I've kept you as an organ bank for Megan. We'll take from you whatever Megan needs."
Each word stung like thorns, sending a searing pain throughout my body, making every inch of skin scream.
Clutching the sheets tightly, I glared at Evan and said, "Evan, I curse you to never be with the woman you love."
"If your curses were effective, you wouldn’t be in this situation now."
Evan's icy words ignited my self-loathing. Losing all reason, I grabbed a fruit knife from the table and deeply cut my wrist.
As I watched the blood flow freely, I felt a twisted relief.
"Avery, you're insane!" Evan exclaimed.
He frantically covered my wound, calling out, "Doctor, doctor..."
As the blood drained from me, my head spun, and I collapsed into his arms.
For the first time, I saw the usually composed Evan panic. I could read the word 'panic' on his face.
As my lifeblood ebbed, my soul slowly began to detach from my body. Looking up at him, I smiled weakly and whispered, "You can't stop someone truly intent on dying. If it doesn't work this time, there will be another..."
Darkness overtook me, and I lost consciousness.
When I awoke, I was alone in the hospital room, gazing at a withered tree with just one leaf remaining, wondering when it would fall and set itself free.
The door to my room swung open.
"Avery, you wretch, how dare you scheme against me?" Megan seethed as she grabbed my throat.
I looked at her calmly. The once delicate and pitiable woman now looked monstrous and terrifying.
Megan paused, then released me and stood beside my bed, looking down.
I stared back at her, as sick as I was, and smirked mockingly, "Megan, you didn't expect this, did you? We're both going to die.
Blame your own venomous nature; you've driven yourself to a dead end. Neither of us will survive."
Megan's eyes flashed with malice as she grabbed my bandaged wrist. Blood quickly soaked through the white bandage, staining the sheets red.
I did not resist. Watching her contorted face, I smiled faintly.
How blind Evan must be to love such a venomous woman.
"Avery, you'll never be my match. I won't die with you. I will live and take everything that was yours," Megan declared, wiping the blood from her hands with a white tissue and smirking triumphantly at me.
