I was heading back to my room when Megan passed by.
I've almost gotten used to her frequent visits to my house, always accompanied by Evan. It's as if Evan fears I might harm Megan, always sticking close by her side.
I find it quite absurd. I've never done anything to harm Megan, but in Evan's eyes, I am the demon constantly hurting this fragile sister.
Suddenly, Megan turned around and asked, "Do you mind chatting on the balcony?"
I stared at my sister, seemingly so fragile that a breeze might blow her away, feeling a mix of emotions, but ultimately, I nodded.
Leaning on the railing with a smile, Megan said, "This villa was indeed designed to my taste. Evan once said he wanted to give me a home."
"I'm sorry," I said, acknowledging that I had once broken them apart, forcing Megan to leave the country alone.
Megan's smile turned eerie as she leaned in and whispered, "You don't need to apologize to me because... I genuinely wanted you dead."
I gasped, stepping back in disbelief.
Her beautiful face twisted with hatred and resentment. "Why should you have everything from birth, while I am just a lowly orphan? I always tried to be obedient, to do everything better than others, but what did it change? I couldn't alter my humble fate. Because you needed a playmate, I was adopted by your parents, where I was nothing but a toy."
"Do you know how resentful I am? I often thought, if you were dead, everything in the Lawrence family would be mine—the love of your parents, your identity, your heritage..."
"Why won't you just die?" I shivered, unable to believe that the sister who once treated me tenderly now harbored such malice. My years of guilt seemed laughable.
"I should thank you for that day when you come to me and saved me with your kidney," Megan said as she stepped closer and touched my face with a coquettish smile. "Soon, I will have everything, all of the Lawrence estate, and Evan will return to me."
Chilled to the bone, I knocked Megan's hand away from my face and said spitefully, "Megan, if you're truly capable, you should have Evan take my other kidney too."
"I will have Evan bring your last kidney to me," Megan declared with a smug smile. "Avery, just as you once stole Evan from me, today I will take him back."
She then jumped from the balcony right before my eyes.
I instinctively reached out to grab her, but my hand only brushed against her clothing as she fell to the ground below. Her blood spread like a blossoming carnivorous flower.
"Avery, you wretch!" came an enraged shout.
After the outburst, I was yanked forward, and a slap landed on my face with such force that I fell, my head hitting the railing, and blood immediately began to flow.
My ears rang and my cheek throbbed with pain; the gruesome scene had left my mind in turmoil.
"You wretch, you've repeatedly tried to take Megan's life; I won't let you off easily this time," Evan declared.
He then ran downstairs toward Megan.
Gripping the railing, I slowly got up, giving a bitter smile. Megan had cleverly calculated that Evan would come. She staged this scene in front of him, leaving me unable to defend myself. In his eyes, I was that venomous.
No matter how I explained, he would not believe me. As long as Megan stood up, his trust would be with her.
