Chapter 14

　　Sean left with Zoey, telling me to wait for his return and explanation. Who wants to wait for him? I certainly don't care. 
　　Lily glanced at me and asked quietly, "Annie, are you alright? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" 
　　Clutching my chest, I feigned great distress and whimsically suggested, "My heart hurts; only shopping can heal it."
　　Her laughter broke through her annoyance, and noticing my seemingly improved spirits, she agreed to take me out. 
　　I bought a roasted potato and got into her car. Lily, who is particular about cleanliness, never allows food in her car. 
　　Exploiting my role as the patient, I indulged in my snack, scattering crumbs on the seat. Lily clenched her teeth, pretending not to notice.
　　I directed her to drive to a high-end bridal shop. She's set to marry in the spring, an event I probably won't live to see. I wanted to see her in a wedding dress. 
　　Without asking why I brought her there, her eyes welled up as she followed me inside. We are best friends, after all, attuned to each other's needs.
　　I selected a strapless satin wedding gown for Lily. While she was trying it on, I picked out a bridesmaid dress for myself.
　　After dressing, I squeezed into her fitting room, and we took a selfie together, pretending I could still attend her wedding.
　　I have a good eye; Lily looked stunning in the dress. 
　　I asked her if she wanted to buy it. She rolled her eyes playfully and whispered, "Why buy such an expensive dress? We'll just take more photos." 
　　Smiling, I left her admiring herself in the fitting room and secretly paid for the dress. She is the best girl in the world and deserves the most beautiful wedding gown.
　　Enduring the intense pain in my chest, I left the bridal shop and took a taxi to the cemetery to visit my mother. Lily, this time it's truly goodbye.
　　No jokes, no tears allowed.
