Chapter 12

　　After injuring myself severely and looking like a mess, I couldn’t hide it from Lily. 
　　She was furious, and for the next two days, no matter what I did, it seemed to provoke her anger. 
　　Eventually, I ended up crying under the covers, complaining, "You're too good at scolding, always picking on me. If you're so capable, take me to see my mom. You definitely can't outscold her."
　　Lily stayed silent for a long while. Eventually, she gently stroked my hair and soothed me, "Once you're better, I'll take you to see your mom, okay?" 
　　I knew she was deceiving me, and I also knew I wasn’t going to get better. But I didn’t want her to worry, so I smiled, nodded, and agreed.
　　I began to heed her bidding, consuming medications and enduring injections that left my arms bruised and discolored, without complaining of the pain.
　　Sean watched this from the sidelines, then left abruptly, slamming the door behind him.
　　At night, I overheard him arguing with Lily. 
　　"Annie wants to see her mom, don't you understand? What harm is there in letting her go just once?" Lily retorted angrily, "It seems like you just want her to die sooner! You bastard, thinking she's lived too long, are you eager for your mistress to step up?"
　　I quietly wiped away my tears, hating myself for becoming a burden, causing so much trouble for Lily.
