Just before I could breathe my last, Darius came to his senses and abruptly withdrew his hands.
"You're deliberately provoking me... you'd rather die than stay by my side," he realized. In that moment, his usually proud and tall figure seemed to shrink, looking utterly defeated.
Bent over and coughing heavily, he turned away, starting to nervously console himself.
"No, you still love me, Luna. You're just angry with me. I'll make things right," he insisted, leaning in to embrace me forcefully.
"What if I marry you? Let's live well from now on, forget everyone else, just the two of us..." His voice choked with sobs, tears dampening my shoulder.
I pushed him away forcefully, slapping him hard.
Still feeling unsatisfied, I hurled the bedside lamp, pillows, water glass, and anything else within reach at him.
"Darius, if you dare, kill me. Stop tormenting me with your words," I screamed at him.
A water glass struck Darius on the forehead, blood trickling down his face, covering his features.
In the end, he stood up silently. Picking up his suit jacket that had fallen to the side, he paused at the door, suddenly laughing self-deprecatingly: "Luna, you blame me for favoring Serena, but are you really innocent? Thanks to you, Cyrus has broken with the Azure family, and Ash is entirely devoted to you. Can you honestly say there's nothing between you and them?"
"You're right. Since they've been so good to me, I should indeed choose them over you," I laughed loudly behind him. Darius seemed burnt by my laughter, fleeing in haste.
The next day, an unexpected visitor arrived.
It was Serena, claiming Darius had sent her to clarify their relationship to me.
Dressed in a white cheongsam with her hair neatly arranged, she sat down in front of me with a graceful smile.
Yet, as soon as she sat, she sighed pretentiously: "But everyone knows Darius likes me. How can I explain this clearly?"
I ignored her, fixated on the scarf around her neck.
However, my distraught appearance seemed to please Serena, who smiled gleefully.
"You don't have to feel so dejected. Look, even with your tarnished reputation, Cyrus still pleaded with me on your behalf to retract my statement. He really values you as a sister."
Raising her glass elegantly towards me, she didn't hide the venom in her eyes: "Thanks to you,I had to recover from the shock in the hospital for the past few days. Darius is so kind to come to the hospital to take care of me.To spare your feelings, he even had the servants hide this from you. Everyone's so concerned about you."
Without waiting for my response, she continued, this time mentioning another person: Ash.
