After the wedding the book's plot was over, I assumed Sage and I would meet each other again.
Unexpectedly, she kidnapped me.
"Lark, why is your life so favored? Regardless of your identity, he always chooses you." She accused.
"All I wanted was to complete the quest and return alive. Why couldn't he love me?"
From her fragmented rants, I learned her story. She had tried to win Asher's heart twice.
The first time, she took on my current identity, becoming childhood friends with Asher.
However, Asher did not love her; instead, he loved the solitary me. Her attempt failed, and I met a tragic end.
In this lifetime, she adopted my former identity, mimicking me to seduce Asher.
Unfortunately, Asher was indifferent to her seduction, leading her to resort to using the System to hypnotize him.
Such tactics were akin to cheating, with the penalty being her life rapidly diminishing upon failure.
At the wedding, Sage risked using hypnosis again, but Asher, having made himself immune over the last four years, remained unaffected.
His declaration of love for me served as the ultimate rebuttal. Sage's obsession across two lifetimes ended fruitlessly, and her life neared its end.
When Asher arrived, Sage was threatening me with a knife.
Seeing Asher, she lost control: "Asher, you love me, right? Just say you love me, and I'll let her go."
Asher glanced at me and subtly nodded: "I love you... Lark."
Sage's demeanor completely shattered. I seized the moment to elbow her forcefully to get her away from me.
Within moments, she was apprehended.
Asher embraced me, his body shaking.
His gaze at Sage was filled with intense loathing.
Clinging to Asher tightly, I said the words that I had said to him before.
"Asher, there's something I've never told you."
"What is it?" He inquired.
"Asher, I love you."
