Asher's parents were thankful to her, even wanting to make her their adopted after learning of her unfortunate past.
Sage respectfully declined: "That's very kind, but helping Asher was the right thing to do; he once saved me as well."
Asher's parents remarked in surprise, "So Asher saved you too? It seems like fate."
Fate? That notion filled me with despair and unease. Looking at Sage, I couldn't help but harbor a few malicious thoughts.
I grew up with Asher since we were young.
Why could she, merely by being the female lead, effortlessly take everything that was mine?
It dawned on me why I, in the story, turned villainous.
No one would be unscathed seeing their love and significance snatched away.
However, I refused the fate of my book counterpart, nor did I wish to antagonize Sage, pushing Asher away.
Thus, I chose to let him go. Love lost can be rediscovered, but life once gone is irreplaceable.
To part ways amicably, making Asher harbor guilt, I staged a scene of catching his adultery.
Aware of Asher's business trip to neighboring city and an ensuing mishap with Sage due to being drugged, I took the initiative.
I arranged a trip to the city with my best friend, arriving first to whisk away drugged Asher, before Sage could.
