On that night, I was suddenly overwhelmed by intense abdominal pain, necessitating an urgent admission to the hospital. In those blurred and agonizing moments, the tag of being "the other woman" sliced through my heart, leaving me battered and bruised. I lay curled up on the icy hospital bed, gripping the mockingly ironic medical report.
The doctor, with furrowed brows, scrutinized my decidedly pessimistic test results.
"Your health condition is extremely poor."
He enumerated my conditions:
"Anemia, malnutrition, stomach disorders, and depression... Your baby was almost lost."
He paused briefly, then inquired, "Where is the baby's father? Maybe you should call him, discuss whether to continue with the pregnancy or..."
I fought to quell the upheaval in my stomach, gently closed my eyes, and murmured softly, "No, there's no need. This child... he has no father."
That night, Graham, inexplicably lost to alcohol, came home and kissed me with a passion I hadn't known from him. To the man who had received a decade of my silent love, I offered no resistance. Little did I know, that singular encounter would lead to pregnancy.
Lying on the hospital bed, I inadvertently accessed Penelope's social media profile, stumbling upon that decisive night. Her performance of "Farewell" had set the internet ablaze, turning into a legend in the hearts of many.
Her last message in the video said, "You're my antidote, as well as my end."
"Even if tomorrow sends us worlds apart, I still wish to hand in hand grow old with you."
That night, Graham might have reached a resolution, choosing to release his hold. Thus, they parted ways, each to their own farewell.
And I, amidst that tumultuous night, mistakenly believed Graham's gentleness was meant for me. Struggling to rise from the bed, I calmly dried the tears at the corners of my eyes.
"Doctor, I've made my decision not to keep the child."
My voice barely betrayed any fluctuation of emotion, "Could you please arrange for the procedure?"
