Chapter 5

　　In the silence of the night, a profound stillness permeated the hospital ward. I hurried through the corridors, my every step echoing with the beat of my anxious heart.
　　Nurses passed by, their whispered conversations drifting to my ears like specters, "It was so perilous earlier, the little girl nearly didn’t make it..." "Her mother must be shattered. It’s fortunate her husband made it in time."
　　A jolt of unease surged through me, an ominous feeling spreading within. My pace quickened as I rounded a corner, and then, I was confronted with a scene that broke my heart.
　　Graham, in a display of passion and impulsiveness I had never witnessed, was embracing a woman tightly, their lips locked in a fervent exchange. The intensity of their emotions seemed to solidify the air around them. His actions, both commanding and filled with yearning, as if desiring to merge her into his essence.
　　The woman, with no retreat from his intensity, eventually broke down, tears streaming, sobbing, "Graham, I can't stand against the decision of the Huntington family." "If it means Harley can have a peaceful life, I’m willing to step out of your world."
　　Bathed in moonlight, Penelope’s face glowed with a sad beauty. It was then I recognized the woman clearly—it was Penelope, very much alive. Graham’s eyes brimmed with complex emotions as he gently stroked Penelope’s face, his voice deep and laden with guilt, "Why did you conceal the truth from me?"
　　"Penny, do you wish to see me in ruin?"
　　Penelope's voice quivered, reminiscent of a cornered deer, "I was...forced." Graham softly arranged her tousled hair, attempting to provide solace, "From this moment forward, I will protect you both."
　　Suddenly, Penelope’s eyes widened in alarm, as if a realization struck her.
　　"Graham, what will your next steps be?"
　　His voice, imbued with a mix of resignation and deep affection, conveyed his dilemma, "I have already committed to marrying another woman." "I will abide by the Shen family’s wishes, become another’s husband, and guard you in silence till my life’s end."
　　In that instant, it felt as though my entire world was crumbling.
