Chapter 99

　　FERNANDA TORRES
　　I left Ethan's room not willing to look back. Ethan didn't want me to talk to Elise but I was hell bent on talking to my daughter. I wouldn't just sit by and watch her hate me.
　　When I went back to the party, my eyes scanned around for any sign of her but that wasn't exactly possible when every girl in here wore a blue dress. I was getting frustrated by the minute.
　　I spotted Jaxon with Drew playing a game a far off from the snack bar. Lisa Carter was by the karaoke machine instructing some kids on what not to do and what to do. I decided to go into the other room to check for Elise when someone called me from behind.
　　'Aliya?"
　　I turned around to see Nina, carrying a large bowl of buttered pop corns. My eyes fell on her belly. She was pregnant?
　　'Nina!" I exclaimed hugging her lightly.
　　'Jai mentioned you were back in town but he failed to mention how you've changed",she said looking at my outfit then at my hair.
　　'Jai? He talked to you about me?" I asked.
　　Last I had checked Nina and Jai weren't exactly buddies, it was a surprise to even think that they talked but them again I had been gone for so many years and a lot had changed.
　　'Let's just say he remembered he saw you at the store while he was giving me a foot massage", she said throwing a popcorn in her mouth.
　　Then suddenly everything clicked. Jai buying baby clothes, giving Nina a foot massage. Nina was carrying his baby?
　　Realization dawned on me and I said,
　　'I didn't know- you two? You'll make good parents, I'm sure", I complimented wanting not the conversation to end there while I continued with my search for Elise.
　　'I hope so. Ethan says Jai and I are the most chaotic couple, he's ever come across with"
　　'Ethan says a lot of things", I said.
　　'Have you talked to him? Ooh and have you met Elise, she is just the best",Nina squealed tenderly and I felt bad knowing that everyone in this party knew Elise except for me, her own mother.
　　'I was just looking for her before I bumped into you actually. Did you happen to see her?" I asked praying that atleast Nina had seen where my little girl had ran off to.
　　'She went with Crystal outside if I'm not wrong"
　　Crystal? Crystal was at the party too? I thought she was in Fiji with her husband.
　　'Ooh thanks..if you will excuse me, I have to take something to her", I lied.
　　'It was nice seeing you, Aliya..hope we can catch up some time", I heard her say before I disappeared past the dining room to the kitchen and outside the back door.
　　Just by the edge of the pool was Crystal and Elise their feet dipped in the water. Elise sat on the rest of her blue gown ensuring that none of it touched the water. Her shoes were just by the side as well as her stockings.
　　Stockings that I was supposed to buy for her. Shoes that I was supposed to buy for her.
　　'I know he can be a bit of a meanie at times", I heard Crystal say and Elise nod in agreement.
　　'Is that why you are mad?" Crystal asked.
　　'Mmh daddy lied. He never lies to me",Elise said.
　　'Well sometimes people lie to make their loved ones happy. Remember when you and Uncle Landon lied about eating the chocolate cake I had baked?"
　　And Elise nodded.
　　'Why did you lie at that time?"
　　'Uncle Landon said you would get mad and I didn't want you to be mad so I lied"
　　'See. You lied not to make me mad. Your daddy did the same. He lied to make you happy",Crystal assured her arm on Elise's shoulders.
　　'I wanted the lie to be true, aunty Crystal",she sobbed and Crystal comforted her stroking her hazel brown hair gently.
　　I wanted to shout that it was true. To tell her that I was her mommy.
　　'I know sweetie. I know"
　　'I don't want a mommy anymore. Dad was right, I have you and grandma Lisa and Nana Mila and Uncle Landon and daddy. I don't want a mommy",she said breathlessly holding onto Crystal's waist and I sobbed covering my mouth with my hand so that they wouldn't hear me.
　　Slowly, I tiptoed through the back door going to the party. I was so angry at myself, at Crystal and at everyone. Elise didn't want me anymore because she felt like her mother abandoned her when I didn't even know she existed.
　　I felt bad and jealous seeing Crystal of all people being a mother figure to my daughter…she was taking my daughter away from me and when I thought long and hard as to who I should have blamed, my mother came to my mind.
　　She was the one to blame, no one else but her. I opened my bag in frustration taking out my phone.
　　'Hello, I want to press charges…

　　The police came a little while everyone was preoccupied with singing the birthday song. I boldly led them to where my mother was and I watched as they put cuffs around her wrists.
　　'I'm sorry",she said and I tried to be strong and not tear up.
　　'Karen, what's- what's going on? You got the wrong person, officers. She didn't do anything… Fernanda, tell them",Vince cried as I watched the police take her away from the party.
　　I heard gasps and a lot of murmurs behind me but I didn't mind it. She kidnapped my child, her grandchild and for that she had to pay even though she was my own mother.
　　It hurt me, it hurt me so much but at the moment I didn't know whether I could ever trust her again.
　　'Aliya? What did you do?" Ethan spoke behind me.
　　'I did what needed to be done. She took her away from me", I muttered turning around to face Ethan only to see Elise and Jaxon right behind him.
　　Rather it was the gaze that Jaxon gave me that made my heart shatter. He hated me!
