ETHAN CARTER
'It was one man. One man attacked me. He had a mask over his head and before he attacked me he left a message…a message for you. He told me that if I survived that I was your last warning otherwise things would get worse"
My throat dried up, the calmness that had built inside me disappeared into thin air and my whole body became tense.
'Ethan what's going on? Are you involved with him?"
Aliya asked and I lacked words. Words to even start explaining what was going on.
'I have to go", I said suddenly getting up from the chair.
'What? Where? Is this about the man? Ethan, I don't know what's going on but you can tell me anything. I'm here to listen",she assured reaching for my hand.
'I'll tell you everything…once you recover but I have to make things right, Ali. For you. For every one I love", I muttered pulling my hand away from her and leaving her room in a jiffy.
I passed by Ray who at the moment was talking to Mrs Torres. Without a doubt when Mrs Torres saw me she was quick to ask me if we would take a quick word but I replied with ‘later'.
I could tell she didn't like me and ever I wouldn't like myself seeing as to how I brought trouble to every one I loved. The other day it was my mother and today…God today, he attempted to kill Aliya.
Aliya of all people who had done no crime but to love me. I hailed a taxi instructing him to move towards Green Street where Julian Perez's mansion was located. It was a suicide mansion. Confronting him was like pushing myself inside a burning furnace but I would rather burn than let people I love burn.
I arrived at his mansion at almost ten pm and the guard at the gate let me in as fast as he saw me. It was as if he had been expecting me all night.
I walked up the rugged terrain that led to his mansion remembering that once upon a time I worked here as Julian's servant.
Kid, that's what he used to call me.
‘You remind me of myself when I was young', he would tell me giving me generous tips and luxurious gifts.
For a kid who had never tasted the billionaire life, I was ambitious thinking that Julian Perez was the key to me being someone in life. He saw something in me that no one did and I on the other hand assumed that every man who helped you was a Good Samaritan.
Unfortunately, Julian Perez was nothing but. He wasn't a Good Samaritan, he did things with a backup plan at the back of his mind. He made me who I was today because he knew one day I would have to return the favor.
He manipulated people into thinking he was on their side only for one day to wake up and come knocking on your door for his pound of flesh. Simply, pure and utter extortion.
I knocked on his door pretty sure that he was home. The bastard was always home anyways while his kids and wife preferred to stay in hotels and others outside the country.
I pressed the buzzer tapping my foot harshly as I waited for someone to open the door for me. Two minutes past and no one answered the door so I rang it again and again and again until I had a cramp on my thumb.
Later on, a maid nearly my age opened the door for me. Her hair was disheveled and her lipstick smudged, I didn't need to be told why she has taken too long to open the door because the answer was as clear as day.
I entered his house walking to his study as I felt the maid behind me running towards me.
'Sir?—Sir, can I help you?" The maid asked behind me but I ignored reaching Julian's study and flinging the door open.
'It's okay, Jenny. You can leave, he's a good friend",Julian muttered seated on his leather posh seat behind his desk while he smoked a cigar.
'She's new here",he explained and I noticed the first two buttons of his shirt undone.
Ofcourse she was new to the house and like the greedy bastard that he was, he had already made his way with her.
I took four strides to where he sat, yanking him by the collar and smashing his body against the pastel wall of his study. Holding him steady with my hands, I growled,
'The deal's off! You daughter cheated on me, she's clearly in love with another man so what I don't get is why you are coming after me when it your freaking daughter that ended things"
He laughed. Damn bastard laughed.
'You've always failed to see the bigger picture. I couldn't care less whether my daughter fucked an entire football team, you are still going to marry her! You hear me, boy? Otherwise I might be enticed to finish what I started with your mothe-'
I punched his gut watching him squirm in my grasp.
'Don't you dare lay a single touch on my mother or else I'll lose whatever morals I have and end you. I will fucking kill you!"
'Kill? I've known you for many years and murder is not in your resume, Ethan. It's just marriage, you think I fucking care if my daughter is happy with you or not. Open your eyes and look at the bigger picture. With our companies merged we could rule this city, we could rule the world.
Think of all the arms we would sneak into the country. I'll make you a happy man besides marriage doesn't mean you are pledged to one woman, you can still explore…even with maids",he muttered and it was if I couldn't believe what I had just heard.
I let go of his collar realising that the old man had thought of everything through. Gun trafficking? He was doing all this for that? I had been a fool thinking that he was looking out for his daughter but at the end of the day, he always looked out for himself, no one else.
'You are a sick man", I uttered.
'You call it sick, I call it ambitions. Something that we both share. I'm giving you a week, Ethan. Propose, marry her within a day or two. No more playing games, am sick and tired of that. A week, Ethan. Get your shit together and do the necessary"
