Chapter 47

　　ETHAN CARTER
　　He stood up from the ground fast, flinging an upper cut which landed on my jaw without mercy. I tumbled back wards hanging on the barbed wire for support.
　　'Ray, don't!" Aliya warned him and for a little moment he hesitated standing at the same spot while he used the back of his hands to wipe the blood off his nose.
　　I took it as a good sign as I ran to him spearing him down to the cold pebbled ground. I threw three to four punches to his face before he rolled me to the ground straddling me and throwing not one, not two and certainly not three punches to my eye.
　　I felt the warm liquid against the side of my right eye and I sure knew that he wasn't going to stop. And if he didn't stop the guy would kill me long before I inflicted damaged on him.
　　I rolled him over making sure that I jerked my foot high enough to injure his ribs. He yelped in pain and I took that as a good sign delivering another punch to his cheek.
　　'Ethan! Ethan, stop!" I felt Aliya tug at my shoulder trying to pull me off her little boyfriend but I wasn't going to stop right there.
　　Is this the reason why she took a day off earlier? To kiss this punk in the middle of the street?
　　I didn't barge or listen to her cries, instead I kept punching the guy until I was sure he wouldn't get up from the ground.
　　'Help! Someone please help! Help!" I heard Aliya scream before Ray turned me over once again straddling me and delivering one punch after the other until I couldn't make out if what I was seeing was real or not.
　　With one last glare, he knotted his hand into a fist before it landed on my cheek and I blacked out.
　　'Take him home"
　　'Or a hospital, I don't care"
　　I heard someone murmur and I fluttered my eyes open feeling the pain in my cheek throb by each second.
　　'Speak of the devil",Jai mused and I groaned seeing an angry Aliya standing beside him.
　　'Yes he is finally awake, why don't you take him to home",Aliya repeated through gritted teeth as she eyes me.
　　I struggled to stand up, feeling as if the pain in my ribs would kill me any moment soon. It was like being operated in without anesthesia and actually feeling the needles prick your skin one by one.
　　Jai scooted to the ground, grabbing me by my shoulder and helping me yo. I stood yo only to notice the crowd eyeing me as if I were a roach who needed to be squashed.
　　Just by the barbed wire that acted as the fence to the shabby building by the road, stood Ray, his hand on his ribs as he glared at me as if he wanted to actually finish the job and kill him. He had a swollen black eye and he was bleeding and the thought that I had done brought a smile to my face.
　　Not that I had escaped narrowly from his punches either because I felt woozy and my ribs ooh my ribs stung like hell. I think I needed to see a doctor.
　　Once I was upto my feet, I tried standing on my own only to feel pain pierce my left leg. Had the bastard rendered me crippled too?
　　'Come on, big fella",Jai humored taking a few steps back to help me so that we could start walking to my car but the thing was, I wasn't going unless Aliya came with us.
　　I knew it was a bad idea visiting her in my way home but I really wanted to see her. I wanted to apologize to her for being cold and mean to her. What I didn't expect however was to see her kissing the man she claimed as her bestfriend a couple of blocks away from her home.
　　God knows, I had tried being calm but that all ended when I saw the guy grab her waist possessively as if he owned her. I was never a man to get jealous or to lose control but at that moment in time, I was jealous, I was hurt and I was insecure.
　　I had no right and yet like scorned man I asked Jai to park the car up ahead, stay there and wait for me. In a rush, I had stood behind them grabbing the so called bestfriend and delivering one deserved punch.
　　'If we are ever going to get to the car, you'll have to start moving, buddy. Any time now. Ethan, come on!" Jai grumbled but I held my ground staring at Aliya.
　　'Come with us", I said simply still holding onto Jai's shoulder.
　　'After what you just did? I am not going anywhere with you, Ethan!" She shouted loud enough for everyone to hear.
　　Even from my peripheral vision I could see Ray smirk as if he had expected everything to happen as they were right now.
　　'Don't make this hard. You know very well you are supposed to be working and neither did I give you a day off", I scolded feeling my cheek hurt every minute I let words out of my mouth.
　　'Mila said it was okay",she retorted and I gazed around at the crowd of people still standing there wondering how everything would turn out.
　　Didn't they have jobs or something? Or was it just abnormal for them to see people fighting? To me, they seemed like a couple of idlers with nothing better to do than spy on people and later on gossip about it.
　　'Mila is not your boss, I am!" I lashed out watching Ray walk behind Aliya as if he were some sort of bodyguard.
　　'Then I quit! Do you hear me? I'm done. I'm done with you, I'm done with the job!"
　　'You are done? You think it's that easy? You owe me! Or shall I remind you about the little-'
　　'Aliya!" We heard another voice and just among the crowd was a woman peering at the scene and just behind her was a guy. Dr Navarro?
　　She had a pale expression glaring at Aliya then at me then at Ray. I studied her noticing that even though she didn't have ginger hair, her eyes were a slight green and blue and her face symmetrical.
　　How could I have not recognized her when it is I who had carried her to the ambulance. It was Aliya's mother.
　　'Mom? What are you doing here? I thought you went with Vince?" Aliya asked surprised to see her mother.
　　'I forgot something at home. What is going on here? Who is this and why does he look like he just came from a fight?"
　　'Him? He-he is my boss. He came here to pick me up",Aliya lied and both I and Jai stood there confused.
　　'Boss? Pick you up? I don't understand anything",her mother insisted.
　　'The job I told you about. I work for him…as his-his assistant. He gave me the day off and he's here to pick me up. He got into a fight with Ray but it's all good now, we were just leaving",Aliya lied through her teeth.
　　Even I would buy such a story when it seemed so fabricated. Falsely fabricated infact.
　　'What? W-why-? Huh?" Aliya's mother asked and when I thought she would see through her daughter's lie, Ray spoke up,
　　'It was a slight misunderstanding, Karen. Aliya was just about to take his boss to the hospital. Weren't you?"
　　Surprisingly Aliya nodded, walking me to the car and hopping in once I got inside the car.
