When we arrived at The Walter's mansion which I had been before, I was escorted to Frank's apartment where I saw him already dressed and going through his laptop. He was sitting on a couch. "Sir, Miss Laura is here" The servant that took me there announced.
"Ah, Laura, welcome" Frank quickly stood to his feet after dropping his laptop on the other side of the couch.
"Thank you sir, Good morning" I greeted him.
"Morning, how are you doing this morning?" he asked as he gently walked over to me. He was, as usual wearing an Armani suit, but today's was grey. He practically seemed not to care much about colors, he wore any clothe that fits him regardless of the color.
"Fine, how about you?" I said not taking my eyes off him. He looked handsome like always, and whenever I look at him I used to feel something... warm in my heart. And I bet I wasn't the only one, for someone to be that handsome I am sure a lot more ladies felt the same way I felt for him. Different, and warm. Unlike other guys, he was truly different from the rest.
"Great," he responded, "now let's go to the dining room" he grabbed my hand looking down at me with a remarkable smile on his face. How I loved his smile, so breath-taking and unique. I could trade his smile for a million dollars. Or so I thought.
"Alright" I beamed back at him. Thus, we began heading out of his apartment, to the dining room... the room that housed the elegant dining table. I was there the last time I came, and to be honest I was amazed by the size of the table. I had never seen such a big dining table like that before.
But how many were the Walters that they had such a big dining table? Weren't they few? Well, perhaps it wasn't just for the Walters but for guests too. As one of the richest families in the country, they ought to have elegant dining rooms so they could have feast with their guests, and I bet they used to have guests often. Perks of being a rich family.
The moment we arrived at the dining room, I was amazed to see different meals arranged on the dining table. Like seriously, all those things for breakfast only? I nearly uttered that but quickly drew my words back. There were fresh vegetables on the table, fried rice and chicken, a whole bowl of spaghetti, mushrooms and small octopuses, then a big bowl of vegetable soup and beef and/ or mutton. And so on. It was as if the breakfast was meant to be consumed by hundred people, or perhaps half a hundred. But it was only meant for the two of us, or perhaps the servants will eat the remaining ones later.
"Wow!" I muttered, "This is amazing!"
"Sure it is" he said and then offered me a chair to sit, "Have a seat, please" he pulled the chair for me.
"Thank you" I gladly sat on the chair and began thinking about the first thing to lay my hands on. This was supposed to be breakfast, and I expected light meal... but then I met heavy meals. Anyways, who am I to complain?
"Aha!" he said the moment settled down as well. He had walked round the table in order to sit opposite me. "Now, shall?" He wrinkled a brow at me. I thought he was talking about prayers but just as I nodded my head, he took a plate and began serving himself. Well, it wasn't as if I was used to praying before eating too.
I also took a plate and the first thing I did was to lay my hands on the vegetable soup. I took as many pieces of meat as I could and began eating the soup gently. It was well prepared and the meat tasted good, well barbecued. It was more tasty than the one I ate in that restaurant. Don't even get me started about the ingredients.
While eating, a servant came and told Frank that his materials are ready. I didn't know what materials he was talking about but I was pretty sure he was going to work with them. Frank nodded in acknowledgement and the servant took a bow and left. "Do you know why I hate this job?" he said the moment the servant left.
"Why, I thought you are beginning to like it?" I managed to utter with my mouth practically full with the piece of meat I was chewing.
"Well, I thought as well but with the kind of work I am having on my desk these days I am beginning to give it a second thought. As soon as my dad returns, he's taking over everything. I don't think I can continue" he said as he chewed his sliced cheese.
"No, no... please don't do that. We've talked about this before, you can do it... trust me" I tried to convince him again into accepting his responsibility. Of course it was his responsibility, otherwise who will take over the company after his father? If he didn't learn how to run it now, it would he hard for him to do that in the future when he got married and began having his own kids. He wouldn't have much time for the company or for his family.
"Come, Laura, you know I am not made for this. And what we talked about before is You taking over after my dad, and helping me with all the works. Or have you forgotten?" he said as he sipped the wine like beverage in his glass. His words made me speechless, I didn't know how exactly to make him understand that there was no way I could take over his father's company after him.
That would be bizarre. Would the board members even agree? What if they all threatened to sell their shares? What if it all ended up badly? It wasn't as if I was good at administrative activities or running a company or an organization. Even the assistant head of accounting he gave me, I felt like the position was too big for me.
But even so, I was up for department thid morning. I only heaved a sigh and told him to hurry up so he shouldn't be late for work. And for that, he smiled and shook his head continuing with his meal. He knew I didn't want to continue the argument and he respected my choice. I really like that. I thought to myself. When he was done eating, or so I thought as there were still a lot around him to be devoured, he stood to his feet and wiped his lips with napkin.
"I should be going now" he apprised me after clearing his throat, "It is fifteen minutes to eight," he glanced at his wristwatch, "hopefully I would be at work before eight, I needed to approve some things around that eight"
"Okay, be safe!" I said and beamed at him.
"You too" he beamed back at me, "Although I know you would be safe here, the servants would take good care of you. You can nap, wait or order for lunch, go to the workout room, explore my apartment, go to the garden, and you can watch some movies in the mini theatre. The servants will guide you to the places you don't know and needed to be, and they would tell you where you don't need to be"
"Thank you" I said cheerfully.
"You are welcome" he said about leaving when he remembered something, "Lest I forget, you can call me in case there is something I need to know. Perhaps something urgent. I would back as fast as I could to attend to you" he assured me.
"Alright, sir" I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Good!" he uttered and then left.
As soon as he left, it was as if the whole table was gifted to me. Like I was told I could do whatever I like. I was so happy, I nearly lost my mind as I began eating the things I found tasty and the drinks that looked non-alcoholic to me. I had been eating carefully earlier because I didn't want Frank to scold me or warn me against eating too much or food poisoning.
But now that he was out, who would be there to stop me? Except maybe if I start experiencing pain in my tommy, and I am sure if that happens a doctor would be summoned to attend to me. There was no way they wouldn't have a doctor or nurse here, such a big house? There has to be a doctor! I thought to myself as I continued doing what I like.
The only things I didn't touch were the fresh vegetables and see foods. Maybe next time, but now I don't think I can eat that octopus and... and... I thought as I started hearing the sound of my phone. It was ringing, and obviously it was still in my bag. I sluggishly unzipped the bag and brought it out to check who the caller was. Lo and behold, it was Jessica. I heaved a sigh and wondered why on this earth would she call me, for what reason exactly?
"Hello" I muttered after taking the call.
"Hi, Laura. Where the f*ck are you?" she quiried to my utmost surprised, I never imagined she would ask. It wasn't as if she cared after all, so why would she ask? Did she checked my room and the whole house, and thought maybe I had disappeared? Well, I was somewhere she would never know and would definitely never be, enjoying the luxury of life.
"Why the heck are you asking?" I muttered.
"I am asking because... Mrs Smith is downstairs waiting for you. Now tell me where exactly you are so I could tell her, I don't have time to continue this conversation" she hissed waiting for my response.
"Well if you don't have time then hang off, but I know you won't because that woman needs to be respected. You respect her too, right? That's why you want to know exactly where I am so you could tell her, otherwise you... you never cared about other people..." I said as she cut in,
"Are you drunk? You seemed to be drunk!" she thundered.
"Drunk? Of... of course not, why would you even..." I belched, "say I am drunk? No, I am not drunk, I can't be" I said as I began feeling weird. "Wait, how do you feel when you are drunk?" I asked her.
"You will be out of your mind and would be acting strange. What you are doing now is an example, and if you don't tell me where you are now I will call Lorraine and tell her you are in danger so she could search for you wherever you are and bring you back here immediately!" she exclaimed.
"No, no... I am fine, I am safe where I am. I don't need anybody searching for or wondering if I am safe or not. I am perfectly fine, just tell Mrs Smith I would be back in the evening. I will see her myself, in her house. Please... do that for me, okay? Just do that for me" I implored her.
"Okay, fine then. If you say so" she giggled and then terminated the call. I didn't know exactly why she giggled but I really didn't mind now. All I wanted to do now was to find a place and rest my body. There was this kind of feeling I just couldn't explain, whenever I stand to my feet I would feel dizzy.
Everything looked strange to me. And just as I began checking the drinks on the table, even while unintentionally breaking some bottles and utensils, I was able to grab one of the drinks I took before I started feeling somehow. It turned out that particular one was alcoholic, and it was the same one that Frank took.
I actually thought it wasn't alcoholic hence I didn't mind checking it. But now that I found out it was, I felt somehow sad. And before I knew it, I started vomiting. Just then I lost my balance and was already on the ground. I had to vomit almost everything I took, but hopefully the servants came to my aid and one of them acknowledged what was going on. "She's drunk, nothing more" The middle aged woman said.
