After almost an hour in Mrs Smith's house, I decided to leave. And it wasn't as if aunt Vicky and Jessica were back, I just left because I was tired of answering her questions.
I didn't tell her I was tired of her questions though, I stood and told her I needed to buy something from one of the stores around before my aunt and her daughter returned.
And luckily, she fell for it and even escorted me out humbly. She then told me to take good care of myself and to avoid getting into trouble like my cousin, Jessica and her friends.
That was gross, right? I mean, for a neighbor to be that nosy. Now I know why Aunt Vicky wasn't mingling with them. I perfectly understand, but why would she ask me to stay with them before she return despite knowing how nosy they were?
Anyways, it wasn't as if there was any place to go. If there was a place to stay, other than our neighbors' houses, she would have told me to go there instead. I know that for sure, and I wouldn't think twice before doing as she say.
While headings towards the second street, I walked past some of the neighbors. I didn't bother looking at them, let alone know whether their eyes were on me or not. I just kept walking until I reached the jewelry store I met Jessica's friends in.
The owner of the shop was talking to two police officers, he was showing them a gown and I could remember, the was the same gown that was mistakenly torn by Vivian on the day of the festival.
To say I was shocked is an understatement, I quickly lowered my gaze and continued walking. Of course I was scared, the fact that I was among the people that went into the store. Only that, I didn't take any clothes off the mannequins nor wear them.
As soon as I was out of the scene, I called Shirley on phone in order to warn about it but unfortunately, her phone was unreachable. Thus, I texted her and told her to call me as soon as she gets my voicemail.
I actually told her, via the voicemail that apart from the ongoing stolen jewelry case, there might be another problem soon. The clothing store. I tried all my best to be careful about the words I say to avoid implicating myself.
Albeit, I knew for sure, I might still end up being interrogated by the police about it even though I didn't wear any of the gowns, but I was more worry about exposing some of the information I would prefer the cops to get from those that tempered with the store's gowns.
I kept walking until I arrived at one of the best grocery stores around, it was Saint's store. We normally used to shop there, Jessica and I. And sometimes, aunt Vicky would do the shopping herself. He knew us, and we knew him too and his family.
His wife was Delilah, and his daughter was Sonia. They were chubby and people used to make fun of them that they ate a lot. Why do people believe fat or slightly overweighted people were gluttons? I mean, does weight has anything to do with food?
Well, maybe yes but the way people were exaggerating it, I just didn't get it. I believe in nature, some people are just born to be fat while some are born to be slim. It all the depends on who exactly one is.
"Laura, tell me you are here to buy the flakes I told you about" Saint said, smiling. He was actually talking about the conversation we had before, I had promised to buy his new cornflakes. The ones produced by the new factory in town.
"Ah, sorry Saint..." I said as he cut in,
"I knew it, she's not gonna buy it!" he muttered, feigning angry.
"Come on, Saint, I never said that. Trust me, I am not here for that yet, but I promise I will come for it whenever I am ready" I tried to calm him down.
"Yeah, yeah... I heard you" he rolled his eyes, making me to choke. He was so funny, you know? "So, what are you here for?" he asked.
"I am here to..." I cleared my throat, looking around the store, "buy some candies or chocolates"
"Or chocolates, or and chocolates?" he gave me a weird gaze, as if he was trying to convince me to buy the two things.
"Okay, and chocolates. Are you happy now?" I muttered as I began strolling around the store, looking for the items.
"Of course, yes. Happy shopping!" he giggled. I didn't say anything to him. I continued looking for what I intended to buy, and when I found them I returned to him and paid for the items. "Nice one, Laura, mind buying more? I would be glad to charge from you ATM card if you are short in cash" he uttered, widening his teeth in an hilarious way.
How I managed to hold my laughter is still a mystery, he acted in a very funny way... you know? "You are not serious, Saint, that's all I want to buy. Unless if you are willing to give me a coupon for free items. I would be glad to add more into my cart" I sarcastically said, laughing at my own joke.
"Coupon?" he gave me a funny look, "No, you don't deserve a coupon, I only give that to my lovely and respectful customers. You, Laura, you aren't one of them" he said, and I could feel the sarcasm in his words.
"Oh, really? Thanks then, I should be going and never coming back" I said as I feigned being hurt and began heading out of the store.
"Like seriously?" he giggled, not taking me seriously, "I would be glad to see you back soo. Bye, my regards to everyone, especially Jessica. That girl is so unique and special" he said trying to pull my leg.
I knew he was trying to pull my leg the fact that everyone knew who Jessica was, nobody would ever prefer her over me. Unless, maybe, her mother or some of silly friends who are ready to blindly love and follow her for who she is.
There are people, you know, that naturally like violent or malevolent people. Some prefer those that cause them pain over those that show them love. But I believe, sensible people ought to be different by knowing the difference between malevolent and benevolent people.
