After about some hours in Shirley's house, I decided to return home. But just as she escorted me out and I got into a cab, I changed my mind and told her I would like to pay Suzanna a visit too.
"Suzanna?" Shirley was surprised to hear that.
"Yes, is there any problem?" I wrinkled a brow at her out of curiosity.
"No, I mean... nothing. It's just that, I am wondering if she's going to welcome you with open arms" she said as she lowered her gaze.
"Oh, don't worry about that. I know she wasn't friendly to me, I just want to check on her that's all. I would like to ask her some questions" I apprised.
"Questions? About what, if I may ask?" she folded her arms across her chest.
"About the jewelry store, she might have heard something we didn't from Jessica, all I need is a lead or clue to help with the investigation" I said, and for some unknown reasons Shirley gave me a strange look, obviously filled with suspicion.
"Are you with the police or something?" she curiously asked.
"Me? Of course not, although they had interrogated me. I just want to help you and the rest out of this messy situation, I want you all to be free again" I explained.
"Okay then, but be careful. I don't want you to end up landing yourself into trouble in the name of helping us. I still think the police are best fit for the job, and should be left to do it" she uttered.
"Yes, I know but..." I said halfway as her mom came out of the house and yelled at her,
"What the hell is wrong with you, Shirley? Are you sick or something? Don't you know you are going to get yourself into trouble by stepping out? What if the police are watching, do you want them to come here throwing more questions at you?" The woman was furious, and when Shirley couldn't say a word she shouted at her to come back inside.
"Okay, mom!" she said to her mom before turning to me, "Laura, I have to go now. See you soon, please don't forget to think extensively about what I told you. You don't need to interfere into the ongoing investigation, it's the police's job and they are paid by the government to do so"
"Thanks, I will think about it. Bye!" I waved at her and watched as she walked back to their doorstep where her mom stood. Her mom pointed a finger at her and said some words to her before storming back into the house.
Whatever her mom told her, I hope she wasn't trying to end our friendship. I knew the woman was okay with my presence, she must have thought I was similar to the rest of the friends her daughter has. Meanwhile, I was different.
While on my way to Suzanna's house, I decided to call her and notify her about my coming but unfortunately her phone was unreachable. I tried to reach her so many times but all efforts to no avail, hence I dropped my phone and folded my arms while waiting to arrive at her house.
The address given to me by Shirley was apartment building number twenty seven, room sixteen. When we arrived at the place, I looked around first. It was a less busy part of the twon and there were only few shops around.
I walked over to the main entrance and then pressed the talk button of the intercom placed by the wall few inches away from the door. At first there was no answer, for that reason I had to try it again. And when I did, someone responded and asked who I was.
The voice sounded like that of a six year-old, probably from another apartment as I wasn't expecting Suzanna to have a child of her own or a junior brother that small. "It's Laura, is this room number sixteen? I am here to see Suzanna" I said and released the talk button in order to hear what he had to say.
"Oh, Suzanna? Suzanna is in room number fifteen," the boy said.
"Okay, thank you" I uttered.
"You are welcome, Laura" the boy said, making me to smile. I liked how smart he was.
Thus, I heaved a sigh and then touched the room number fifteen's button. Suddenly, someone answered and it was Suzanna. The first thing she said is, "Who's there? I hope it's not the delivery man from DropExpress because I cancelled my order already!"
"No, it's me, Laura" I replied, rendering her speechless. She was probably surprised to find out it was me, I knew she would be asking what exactly was I doing in their house. "Can I come in?" I asked, ending the silence that crept upon us.
"No, I mean... yes, but what are you doing here? Did Jessica sent you or something? That crazy girl refused to pick my calls nor reply my messages, I hope she has a good reason for all that?" she said, I could sense the anger in her.
"Jessica didn't send me, I came on my own" I said, rendering her speechless again. Seeing how speechless she was, I decided to continue, "I am only here to talk about what's going on. I mean, the stolen Jewelries, house arrest... you guys don't really deserve to continue going through this stress"
"My lawyer told me not to talk to anyone about it, not even the other suspects" she said.
"But I am not a suspect, I am a free woman. I am not under any form of arrest, can we talk so I can help you all? I know we've not been that close, nor are we even friends but for the sake of the little time we spent together on the day of the festival, and for the sake of Fred whom we lost recently, I would like to help you guys" I uttered.
"Help? Like seriously?" she scoffed.
