Ruby
Three guards unlocked the door and I watched them walking inside the room
"Here, lady." A guard placed a plate filled with bread and poached egg in front of me along with a glass of water.
Gladly, after Michael left, he didn't turn off the lights of the room I was in. Although it was dim, I could see everything clearly. The room was so small that it seemed like a box. Also, the carton boxes and rods were eating up a lot of space in it.
Also, Michael didn't place the gag in my mouth again. So I could talk with the guards. I said to them, "I am starving. Untie me."
Another guard approached me and started untying the thick ropes around my wrist. Then he said, "You will be tied again after eating."
"Okay," I mumbled and took the plate. "Thank you." I smiled at the guards, and they were dumbstruck at my reaction. I was pretty sure that the guards expected I would scream and shout, throw tantrumsbut I did none of those.
Silly them. I knew my husband would rescue me, so I had to stay safe and sound till he came to rescue me. I had more than enough trust in him.
I will wait for you, Vexon.
After I was done eating, the guards took the plate after tying my hands. If the chair was comfortable, I would have fallen asleep, but the wooden chair wasn't comfortable at all, and my back pain wasn't easing at all. Nonetheless, I was tired so I felt sleepy. Yawning, I didn't realize when I fell into a deep slumber.
___
My eyes jolted open at the sound of firings. For a moment, I thought I was still in my nightmare, but the loud gunshots felt all too real.
As soon as I realized what was actually happening, I started to get worried, praying to God so that Vexon wouldn't get hurt. He was not in his right mind and I knew that. I just hope his carelessness didn't hurt him.
"Where is Ruby?" I heard Vexon shout at someone desperately, outside the room I was in.
I hollered, "Vexon, I am in here!"
As soon as I said that, the door opened and there I saw the familiar face that I was longing to see. Even if I was kidnapped for a short period, I missed him a lot. Every moment without him seemed worthless to me.
His eyes were teary, yet he kept looking at me; as if he was dying to just sneak one glance at me. He ran towards me and untied me at first.
"Well, why did you rescue me?" I didn't know what happened to me, it was probably my mood swings, but I felt like taunting him right now. "I thought you did not care about me. Or are you here for the baby just like Michael and then kill me once I give birt" I stopped midway because as soon as he untied me, he pulled me into a hug, letting his familiar warmth engulf me.
"Gem, are you okay?" he asked in a soft tone, and I immediately wrapped my arms around him.
I could feel hot tears rolling down through my cheeks, humming in response to the question he asked.
"I am so sorry. Please forgive me," Vexon mumbled, his voice almost inaudible. I wanted to say something in reply but I decided to stay quiet. He further spoke after looking around and seeing the Gladiolus guards covering for him outside the room, "Let's get out of here as soon as possible."
"What about Michael?" I asked while standing up from the chair. He held my hand with his and we started rushing out of this room, still careful not to stumble over something.
"Liam will catch him. We have to escape before the cops invade this place," he answered.
My heartbeats fastened at the mention of the cops. I was getting beyond scared. I wouldn't want Vexon to get caught by the cops just to keep me safe.
"Liam? Did you reveal your identity in front of him? Does he have proof that you are the king of the Gladiolus?" I questioned him, but he just opened the door of the black car nearby.
He told me, "At first, get in. We can talk about everything on the way home." He hurried me to the car and I got in. Then he sat next to me and the driver started the car.
Vexon didn't leave my hand this entire time. Even in the car, he held me tightly; as if he was afraid that if he released me from his grip, I would disappear. He was really scared even at the thought of losing me, I knew that.
I placed my other free hand over his hand gripping mine. When he glanced at me, I smiled and wiped a tear which slid through his eyes.
"I am okay, Vexon," I assured him. "Michael didn't harm me even a little. He was taking care of me for the sake of this baby and well, I didn't suffer that much."
"You still suffered, just because of me," he let out. Closing his eyes, he exhaled a deep sigh. It pained me to see him like that. "I saw your car exploding, right in front of my eyes. I was devastated at the thought of you being" he didn't even complete his sentence. More like, he didn't want to because he couldn't picture living without me.
I could read his face easily when he showed his emotions, and I was proud of that. After all, this man loves me so much, so did I.
"Well, I am okay and so is the baby," I told Vexon.
Nodding his head, another thing struck in his mind. So he asked, "How did you survive?"
I answered him, "The driver said that the brakes of the car failed and I should jump out of the car. The driver jumped at first, and then, I had to take the risk for survival, so I jumped as well."
"Then? Is the baby okay?" he asked worriedly, his eyes snapping at my stomach.
"I landed on pillows. Everything was planned and the driver was working for Michael as well. Michael wanted the baby, so he arranged those pillows, I guess."
Vexon arched an eyebrow in confusion. "How can someone place pillows on the road and how come we didn't find them out?"
"Maybe they burned it after kidnapping me," I mumbled and further spoke, "Once we get home, I need a check-up from the doctor. I want to know whether the baby is fine or not."
Vexon nodded his head. "I will call the doctor."
The car was still going on and I placed my head on Vexon's shoulder. "I am sorry too," I murmured.
"You don't have to apologize. I was the one being a jerk to you." He caressed my hair and showed me a small smile.
"How are Everley and Allison?" I inquired.
A smile took over Vexon's face. "They are fine. Everley is a smart girl. She was the one who made me realize you were alive and she also took care of Allison with Maya's help."
I was awestruck hearing it. "Really?" I asked, bewildered. My chest swelled with pride for my eldest daughter.
"Yes," he answered. "We are raising her well. She is a strong girl."
I was really ecstatic after hearing this. We weren't wrong at raising Everley and our parenthood was going nicely. Now I hope we can do the same for Allison and for our upcoming baby. I will try to give them the best and shower them love. And with Vexon by my side, I was sure I could do that.
"By the way, you have to tell me everything from the beginning on how Liam ended up helping you. Starting today, we shall not hide anything from each other. No more secrets," I announced.
Vexon chortled. "Yes, love. Whatever you say."
He came closer to me and locked his eyes with me for a few seconds before pulling me into a kiss.
Damn, I missed him so much.
