Last night really did give me peace. Amongst the kids and work, I can barely give time to Ruby.
I didn��t know Liam Jackson was Ruby��s childhood friend. I pretended to not recognize him last night. I am damn sure that Liam is already suspecting me and he contacted my wife just because he wanted to gather information about me.
I wanted to explain everything to Ruby, but now, I wouldn��t. I have to gather strong proof against Liam because he isn��t actually what he portrays to be. The way he talked with me, it didn��t even feel like a cop talking to me.
While dropping Liam, I saw that he was in a hotel. According to the information my private investigator provided, Liam is in Toronto for the past five years and he also has a house of his own. So basically, he wanted to show us that he came to this city recently for some drug dealing case.
��Mane, make sure Ruby has guards surrounding her, everywhere she goes. Also, for Everley,�� I told Mane through the phone and I was currently in my office.
I wouldn��t stop Ruby from meeting Liam, but I couldn��t risk her life or my unborn baby��s life. Everything has to go smoothly. Liam wants to gather proof against me, but by keeping him near to me, I will find proof against him. Any proof against him can help me to get out of the vision of the cops.
��Boss, Michael��s products were taken by the cops last night,�� informed Mane, which made me chuckle. Let that Michael rot in the prison.
The trap Michael threw me into after betraying me, it would��ve been easy to get out of it. But Liam was making it complicated.
��Okay, that��s great,�� I said to Mane. ��About the mess Cason made up, handle it by saying that we are an armament company and the bombs were ordered by the government. I will contact someone to handle the rest.��
��Okay, boss.��
I cut the call and looked at the picture of Ruby along with Everley. We will click another family picture with Allison and after the birth of the baby. I love admiring my family because whenever I feel stressed, I just look at my family. Their happiness gives me the strength to continue working harder than before.
��This is my happy family and I swear, I will do anything to keep y��all safe,�� I mumbled seeing the photo.

After I reached home, I saw Ruby standing in front of the mirror, looking at her baby bump. I approached her and hugged her from behind, giving a small kiss on her cheek.
��Hello,�� she greeted with a smile, which could kill me due to her cuteness.
��You look beautiful,�� I whispered and pushed her hair all at one side. Then I started kissing her neck slowly.
��You are lying. I am becoming fat.�� She frowned at the mention of it.
��But it��s not fat. It��s just our baby growing,�� I tried to explain it to her, which worked surprisingly and she didn��t turn into a crying mess thinking she has become fat.
��You are right,�� she said and turned to me, ��How was your day?��
��It was nice and busy, as usual. What about you?��
��It was casual. I played with Allison and Everley. Also, talked to Keya.�� She mumbled, ��Thank you for handling the matter without being hot-tempered.��
I smiled. ��The credit goes to my awesome wife.��
��Yes, indeed,�� she answered.
��Did Amantha come today? When will the doctor come to check up?�� I asked her, having a doubt whether she was taking care of herself or not.
She rolled her eyes. ��Amantha, and the doctor, they would never skip the work assigned by you. They are so scared of you. If I even try to object to something, they say, ��The boss will kill me.�� Like, did you threaten them with a gun or what?��
I faked a cough and said, ��Maybe?��
Her eyes grew bigger in disbelief. Then when she thought something, immediately, a worried look covered her face as she spoke up, ��Will Liam be a problem for us?��
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. ��Why will you even think that?�� As much as I wanted to say that Liam would cause a huge problem if I didn��t end his ###chapter soon, I didn��t want her to be stressed. I knew plenty of thoughts came into her mind after realizing what a police officer could do to a criminal. She was just sharing her thoughts, and unfortunately, I couldn��t reciprocate her thoughts. It might harm her health. Besides, I will find a way to expose whatever Liam is hiding and get Gladiolus out of trouble.
She replied, grabbing my hands with hers. ��Because he is a cop. What if he gets a hint about Gladiolus?��
I loved every small detail about her. Even with all the kids and her health, she would still think about Gladiolus. I tried to involve her less in the Mafia works because I didn��t want her to be stressed all the time. However, she would still think about the gang.
I cupped her cheeks and said with a warm smile, ��You don��t have to worry about that. So what if he is a cop?��
��If he finds any clue about our gang, will you kill him, Vexon?�� her tone was almost inaudible. She was really scared thinking about it.
��I won��t kill him, trust me,�� I tried to assure her. ��Just take care of yourself for now. Leave the rest to me.��
��You will handle everything, won��t you?�� she asked once again, to which I nodded. ��Thank you so much for always being there for me. You are the best.��
She wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into a hug. Her hugs were always comfortable and warm. She was indeed the best thing that had ever happened to me. I lost many people around me, but she was the person to stay there by my side, even when I tried to push her away. She never betrayed me, while my so-called family members turned out to be the worst people one could ever call a family.
I will give my life to protect you, Ruby Bevine.
