��Liam?�� My eyes glinted in happiness after hearing from him. ��How are you?��
��I am fine. What about you?��
��I am fine as well.�� I ruffled Everley��s hair and made my way towards the hallway to talk with Liam. He was my neighbor when we were kids. We were pretty close friends. Then we parted ways when his parents took him somewhere else because of their posting. ��How is your life going? Are you in Toronto? If yes, let��s meet, shall we?��
��Geez, woman. Calm down,�� he spoke up. ��Being an inspector is enjoyable honestly and recently, I have got an interesting case. And I am in Toronto to handle the drug dealing case. So we can meet.��
��How did you get my number?�� I asked him.
Liam replied to me, ��I called your mother at first. Then she told me you were in Toronto now with your husband and she gave me your number as well. I didn��t know you would get married so soon. Also, I wasn't invited.��
I could hear the disappointment in his tone. ��I am sorry I didn��t invite you. It was all so sudden. However, we can meet tomorrow. How about you come to my house? I will even tell Vexon and you can meet him too.��
��Vexon?�� He questioned me, ��Is your husband��s name Vexon Bevine, the CEO of the Bevines�� Armament Company?��
��Yes. Do you know him?��
Liam laughed at my answer. ��Who doesn��t know Vexon Bevine? Damn, he is the billionaire guy.��
��And a wonderful husband,�� I added with his words.
��Yeah, right. I really should meet him but not tomorrow. I want to meet you for now. How about we meet in a restaurant for lunch?�� he offered.
I agreed instantly since I was really bored staying in the house for a few weeks. ��Sure.��
��So, tell me more about your life.��
We continued gossiping till Vexon returned home in the evening. In between, I didn��t forget to take my meal and made sure Everley ate her meals on time.

I knocked on Vexon��s study, where he was after he returned home and freshened up. I had no idea why he wasn��t talking with me today. I guess, he had too much workload over him.
I must cheer up his mood, since he was always making sure I stayed safe and enjoyed my day.
��Come in,�� he said at last after I knocked thrice.
��Vexon, how was your day?�� I made my way to him, wearing a simple night gown because it seemed comfortable.
Without even looking at me for once, he replied, ��Good.��
I wanted to tell him about Liam. Actually, I was very excited to tell him about my old friend, so I wanted Vexon to ask me. But his eyes were glued to the laptop screen.
��Won��t you ask me how my day went?�� I urged him to ask, this time rubbing his arms, standing close to him.
��How did it go?�� This time, Vexon was going through some files.
��It went awesome!�� I said with excitement. ��You know, a childhood friend of mine called me today and we will have lunch tomorrow. I am so happy and eager to mee����
I stopped talking when Vexon spoke up, ��Great.��
My eyes held disbelief as I glanced at him. He didn��t even hear everything and he said great. It proved that he wasn��t giving me any attention.
��Vexon, what is wrong with you?�� I asked in annoyance. ��I want to talk to you and you are not even giving me time.��
��Ruby,�� he uttered, closing his eyes. ��Not now. I am a little bit busy.��
His behavior and tone made me more furious. I snatched the file from his hand and closed it, throwing it on the nearby couch. He stood up at that instant.

��Enough, Ruby!��
I stumbled backwards at his sudden outburst. He yelled at me.
Vexon yelled at me.
Tears started to pour out of my eyes, even though I tried my best to stop it.
��Vexon, I���� he cut me off.
��Just get out of the study. Give me some time to be alone.��
He didn��t even look at me once.
Wiping my tears with the back of my hand, I stormed off the study. I didn��t even look back. I closed the door with a huge thud.
��Maya!�� I hollered through the hallway, making my way towards my bedroom.
She ran to me. ��Yes, Boss Lady?��
��Bring my medication to Eve��s room right now,�� I ordered her and made my way to Everley��s room.
How dare he yell at me? He could��ve told me casually that he wanted to be alone.
I am going to make sure he gets all the alone time in the entire world.
I knocked softly on my daughter��s door. She was on the floor, coloring the guns in her customized coloring book. ��You will catch a cold if you sit on the floor,�� I announced to her.
Everley glanced at me and grinned. ��Mom!�� She ran to me and pulled me into a hug. ��Come and see. I have colored five different guns with dark colors.��
��Really?�� I asked Everley and saw her coloring.
Maya gave me my medicines and I told Everley that I would sleep with her. She was really happy, but when she wanted to call her dad, I told her that her dad wanted some alone time.
We had our mother-daughter time.

It was midnight now and I couldn��t sleep without Vexon. Since Everley was fast asleep, I have decided to take a walk in the hallway.
I continued strolling wearing my nightgown, but stopped when I saw the study door was open. Vexon was still sitting there, talking over the phone.
Why didn��t he go to the base today?
��If he doesn��t take the bribe, then let��s give a welcome to his family. If he still doesn��t listen, we will kidnap his family. And still, if he continues to be adamant, we will see what else we can do,�� Vexon said through the phone, hearing which I gasped.
I knew what he meant. If needed, he would kill the family of the person whom Vexon wanted to bribe.
I placed a hand over my tummy.
Baby, how can your father be this cruel despite knowing he himself has a family?
