Ruby
I feel like shooting every goddamn person in front of me. I woke up only to find my husband wasnt there next to me. I wanted to call Vexon and yell at him, but I had to pee at first. So I went to the washroom and after I got out, I saw my handsome yet annoying husband whom I wanted to kill, standing in front of me with his back facing me.
I asked him after putting my hands on my hips, Where were you, Vexon Bevine?
Vexon turned to me at that instant but he didnt reply to me, which made me angrier than before. So, I repeated, Where were you?
Vexon walked towards me and he tried to grab my hand, but I pushed his hands away. Answer me, I demanded.
Why did you wake up so early? You should sleep for some more, he said and started to make his way to the balcony. Lets cuddle and sleep in the swing, shall we?
As much as his offer sounded tempting, he didnt answer my question yet. Will you answer me?
He sighed. I had to go to the base. I had some urgent work.
I narrowed my eyes at him as I questioned, When did you go exactly?
Vexon stayed quiet for a while before answering, Just a few hours ago.
When exactly? I asked with my stern voice and this time, he knew he had to answer fully and honestly.
Around midnight.
I gasped at his answer. Did you leave as soon as I fell asleep? When he nodded, I made my way to him, feeling hot steam coming out of my ears. Why would you do this? How long has this been going on?
Just to he stopped midway as I glared at him.
Are you lying to me, Vexon?
He twitched his lips as I waited for a minute. As he was about to answer, Everley woke up and looked at us saying, Dad, you are home early today.
When Everley said that, I looked at Vexon in disbelief. Vexon was home early today, which only meant one thing. He did that almost every day. He was sneaking out to the base at night after I fell asleep, and my daughter knew it.
Eve, go to your room and sleep there. Call Maya if needed, I told her.
Everley got up from the bed, looking cute in her onesie. Okay, Mom. With that, she got out of the room.
I glared at Vexon, who came closer to me and cupped my cheeks. He let out, I had to go to the base because there are some important tasks going on. If left incomplete, we will face a huge loss.
Why didnt you tell me? I further said as he was about to answer, You know what? No need to tell me. Do whatever you want. Just dont talk to me.
I tried to push his hands away, rather he pulled me into a hug. I love you, he mumbled. I didnt tell you because you wouldve been worried. I didnt want to give you any stress at this time.
I stayed quiet this time. I really missed his touch even though it has been just a few hours. The thought of him not staying next to me when I was asleep really bothered me.
Since last month, Vexon has been working overtime. He goes to the office early in the morning and comes in the evening. I thought his work ended there but now, I learned that he worked at midnight and came home during dawn.
Poor him.
Now, are you giving me silent treatment? he questioned, making me smile.
I will if you ever lie to me again. I tightened my grip over him, pulling him closer even if it was possible. Promise me, you wont lie to me, come what may.
Vexon hummed in response. I promise.
Can you not go to the office today? Take a day off, will you?
As much as I want to do that, I cannot, unfortunately. I frowned immediately hearing his answer as he spoke up, But I will try to make it up to you tomorrow, Gem.
You better do it.

Whenever Vexon goes to the office, I feel so empty. But thanks to Everley for whom my boredom lessened.
Eve, complete your assignment before you go to the garden to play, I told her before getting up from the couch of the living room.
Everley was in kindergarten now. I make sure she completes her tasks properly because if someone else tells her to study, she never agrees until I tell her to study. She is mommas girl and I dont mind at all.
Boss Lady, Amantha is here, informed Maya, making me groan in annoyance.
Amantha was a sweet lady but she was my nutritionist who was appointed by Vexon personally. I had to follow her diet otherwise, she would complain to Vexon, who would scold me for not thinking properly about our child.
I placed my hand over my womb. My stomach had grown just a little over the three months. I had a small baby bump.
Sorry, love. Your dad wants us to eat those leafy dishes again, I mumbled, I hate those as much as you do.
How are you today, Ruby? Amanthas voice echoed through the door as she stepped in, walking towards me.
I smiled brightly at her. I am fine. What about you?
Very well, she answered. Lets prepare your lunch then. I can also prepare for your daughters lunch if you want to. She was looking at Everley who was eating cookies while doing her assignment.
Giving a thin-lipped smile, I told her, Thanks for your concern but I will prepare her one. She hates it when I dont prepare her food.
Amantha patted my back and walked towards the kitchen.
Suddenly, my phone rang, making me jump a little. Thinking it was Vexon, I ran to the coffee table to pick up my phone. Immediate disappointment rushed over me when I saw it wasnt Vexon; rather it was a call from an unknown number. I didnt want to pick it up because Vexon told me to not receive calls from strangers. So I declined the call.
However, my cell phone was ringing continuously.
Taking a deep breath, I received the call. Hello?
Hello, Ruby. Do you remember me? a familiar manly voice spoke up, yet I was struggling to remember who it was.
I am sorry but can you tell me your name? I asked him politely.
The person who called me chuckled lightly through the phone. This is Liam. Liam Jackson.
