I glanced at my three-month pregnant wife, who was sleeping peacefully. She had a special glow on her face, which made her look more beautiful than ever. I was really lucky to have her in my life. It made my life meaningful.
I kissed her forehead, still caressing her soft black hair. Pregnancy did make her moody, but the saddest thing for her was she couldn't eat chocolates.
"Sleep well, Gem," I whispered into her ear and got up.
I had to go to work today. It has been three hours and I hadn't received any update from the base, which seemed suspicious. I made sure every hour or two to get an update about the Gladiolus. Why haven't I got any now?
It was midnight, the work time of the Gladiolus. We deal with all the smuggling at this hour.
After getting ready, I looked at Ruby for one last time and got out of the room. Once I got out, I saw Everley walking towards our bedroom, her eyes groggy in sleep.
"Where are you going?" she asked with her sleepy tone.
I bent slightly and stroked her soft cheeks. "I will be back soon. It's related to work. Don't tell your mom."
"Do you promise to make me a part of the gang?" she questioned, arching an eyebrow at me.
I sighed. Everley always wanted to be an executive in the Gladiolus. I have no idea why she found the position intriguing, but I have told her that she would be trained for that. I feel that she has the potential to be a Gladiolus member. "Ev, I told you, you will be trained. I promise."
She grinned, hearing my response. "I promise to keep my mouth sealed." With that, she ran inside the room to sleep with Ruby. It was our daily routine now.
I would sneak out to the base at night after Ruby was asleep because she wanted me to be with her at night. I couldn't say no, otherwise she would cry. Then Everley would walk sleepily from her room to ours and sleep next to Ruby.
Finally, I made my way to the car.

The base seemed silent. When I got in, everyone had their heads down. Without asking what had happened, I walked into my cabin with Mane following me.
I sat on my leather chair. "What happened, Mane?"
He averted his gaze. "Boss, the Tentrons have informed the police about the smuggling and our drugs are in the hands of the cops right now."
I glanced at him. "So, what? Buy the cops."
Mane remained silent until he saw me looking at him with a cold look. So he answered, ��Ara and Damon, we sent them to bribe the cops and they almost succeeded, but one person placed them in the cell and placed charges against them instead of taking our money. He also refused to give our drugs.��
I questioned him, ��What is his name?��
��Liam Jackson, he is the senior inspector, and he was recently transferred to Toronto. He strictly follows the laws.��
Placing my one leg over the other, I said to him, ��Do one thing. Find every small detail about him and give it to me.��
��Yess, Boss.��
��Also, calculate the amount of loss we faced. Make Bernan assign work in a way we can incur the loss we faced,�� I told Mane, and he nodded before going out of the room.
I knew that Michael Ares, the leader of the gang Tentrons, was a trouble. He didn��t seem trustworthy at all, so I decided to just test him by smuggling less amount of drugs under his watch. Thankfully, I did that otherwise I would be all fucked up by now. However, the loss is loss and I will make sure Michael gets ruined because he tried to ruin my business.
Running a hand on my hair in frustration, I have decided to dial Tyran��s number. Tyran Nivekle became a very close friend of mine now. He is the leader of the Mafia Blemish.
��What��s up, Vexon? All good? Is Ruby okay? Weena is planning to visit her tomorrow,�� said Tyran. Weena, his wife, has become Ruby��s best friend.
��Yes, she is okay.��
��Then how come you have called me at this hour? Is Gladiolus facing trouble?�� he asked me.
I said to him, ��Mafia Tentrons is going down. We will expose Michael Ares.��
Tyran chuckled over the phone after hearing me. ��My ears were dying to hear this. Finally, I heard it. I thought you will wait till the Tentrons push the Mafia Blemish from the second position and the Gladiolus from the first and then, take over the entire Mafia world.��
The Gladiolus was in the no.1 position, and the Mafia Blemish was in the second position among the most powerful and influential Mafias in the world. We were the best and we intend to protect this position, come what may.
��That won��t happen because the two strongest gang leaders are best friends,�� I answered and I could feel Tyran smirking.
I started talking with him and explained my plan on exposing Michael and ruining his business. But I will make sure Michael's wife and daughter get full safety from my side. His wife and eight years old daughter are innocent.
After we made the plan to expose Michael, I went home at five in the morning.
I quietly walked into the bedroom with the hope Ruby wouldn��t wake up. Surprisingly, when I got in, I just saw Everley sleeping peacefully in the black king-sized bed and no one else was there. Ruby��s side was empty, which only meant one thing.
She woke up.
Shit.
The terror raised inside me. The thought of her getting angry was making me scared. I don't care about the kind of cold and scary face I show outside at work or in front of the gang. In the end, I am still a married man and I am scared of my wife. Especially now that she is pregnant and moody.
��Where were you, Vexon Bevine?��
Gulping, I turned around to face my wife, who had her hands on her hips. Her nose flared in anger as she asked one more time, ��Where were you?��
