Ruby
Vexon didn't come home that night.
The medicine Maya gave me made me sleep instantly and my fever subsided.
I checked on Everley in her room and she was sleeping peacefully. I placed a blanket over her.
The Gladiolus men came and they simply disposed the dead body somewhere secretly. Just thinking about what had happened sent a shiver down my spine.
Why did Kace have to die so cruelly?
When I entered Newana's room, Nafeesa and Newana were sitting on the couch. They glanced at me before continuing talking.
"I am sorry for everything, Newana. I had no idea he was in that state," Nafeesa apologized.
"It's okay," Newana said coldly.
Nafeesa further spoke, "I don't want you to have any grudges against me. I will go back to Bangladesh after I have the baby."
"What do you mean, Nafeesa? You aren't going anywhere," I protested, hearing her.
Nafeesa smiled and got up. She pulled me into a hug. "I'm glad that you are okay," she said to me, "But this is not where I belong. I want to be the hot Nafeesa of Bangladesh again."
"No one will call you that anymore if you return with a child. They will insult you," I pointed out.
Nafeesa chuckled, placing my hand on her stomach. "I have already talked to Newana about it. Ruby, will you take care of this child like you do with Everley?"
"What are you saying?" I asked, petrified.
"I want to go back to my old life. I want to leave this baby here, with you, Vexon, and Everley. This baby will get everything that I won't be able to provide here," Nafeesa explained to me.
Newana nodded and spoke up, "Yes, Ruby, she should go back to her life. If she stays here, she will be reminded of all the horrifying memories."
"What about you? Won't you remember?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
She chuckled. "Tonight, I am going to Italy to help Cason with the base there. We are uniting the Iris and the Gladiolus so that everything remains under the control of one king, as in under Vexon's control." "Besides, it's my punishment," Newana continued. "I can never come back to Canada after what I've done. It's the law of our gang."
Tears threatened to sprinkle through my eyes, hearing that. I let out, "No, Newana, don't go. What about Eve?"
"She will stay with you," she replied. "I am sure she likes you more than me. Plus, I don't know if I will ever see you all again."
"What do you mean you are uniting them? Will Ruby and Vexon be the king and the queen of both gangs now?" Nafeesa asked, changing the subject.
Newana nodded, stating, "Now, there will be no Iris; only the Gladiolus. I talked with my father and even he agreed. He had a talk with Vexon last night and they signed the papers." When a question came into her mind, she turned to ask me. "Speaking of Vexon, did he talk to you, Ruby?"
I shook my head and said, "He didn't."
"Father told me that he is still not showing much emotion. Not showing any feeling is scary and dangerous, Ruby. You need to do something. He should grieve, cry, or at least be angry," Newana informed me.
"But what can I do?" I arched an eyebrow in confusion.
Nafeesa answered my question, "Why should he just show negative emotions? If he wants to show any emotion, how about an excited one?"
She and Newana exchanged a look, before smirking at me.
I narrowed my eyes.
What are they up to and why am I getting a bad feeling about it?

I couldn't believe I was doing this right now.
Currently, I was waiting for Vexon to enter the room. I was wearing lingerie under my bathrobe. Nafeesa did a light makeup on my face and made me wear red lipstick.
They are crazy to think this will work.
What they meant by an excited emotion was to awaken Vexon's wild desires; my job was to seduce him.
The door opened while I took a deep breath and faced Vexon as he entered our bedroom. His eyes traveled over my body, but he was still expressionless.
He was about to walk past me but I grabbed his hand.
I clicked on the song Newana suggested on the stereo with the remote. It was weird music that I had never heard before pouring out of the speakers in soft tones. I tossed the remote onto the bed and began to sway my hips.
Vexon sighed.
Well, I'm making progress.
I started following the tips Nafeesa had given me.
I danced seductively, rubbing my whole body on him. It gave me a tingling sensation, but I continued doing so. I thought it was working, but Vexon just pushed me away. He took the remote and turned the song off.
Then he walked towards the balcony, leaving me alone.
I didn't even get to open my bathrobe.
I followed him. But the next thing I saw, made my blood boil. He was smoking. Vexon stopped drinking alcohol, but he still smoked.
"What is wrong with you? Why are you smoking?" I questioned, getting annoyed.
He ignored my presence.
"Why are you smoking, Vexon?" I asked again, more forcefully.
He said nothing.
"You can't just ignore me forever!" I tried to pull the cigarette away.
"What is wrong with you?" Vexon deadpanned.
I put my hands on my hips. "What is wrong with me? Vexon, what is wrong with you? First, your brother died��you didn't even look sad. Second, you are smoking. Third, you are asking what is wrong with me when there is clearly something more wrong with you."
"Look, Ruby," Vexon started, pulling the cigarette away from his mouth. He moved closer to me and I took a step back. "First, so what if my brother died? I lose people all the time. Second, I never told you that I would stop smoking. Third, why are you pestering me?"
Before I could answer, he continued, "It's because you are feeling guilty, isn't it? You know my mother and my brother drugged me. I was not the villain you thought I was. So now, you are showing me pity. The way you acted after our marriage, I will never forget."
My heart clenched hearing him. He told me that he was drugged, yet I thought he was a bad person."Vexon..."
"Even I had a heart, which you wounded in every possible way. So now, I really don't care what you do. I don't need your pity."
I looked at him in disbelief when I heard him say those words. I put my hands on my hips and said, "Pity? Is that what you think? I pity you? I care for you, that's why I am trying to bring you back."
Vexon let out a humorless chuckle. "Bring me back? The previous Vexon will never come back, no matter how hard you try. There's no way."
I arched an eyebrow, saying, "Is that a challenge?"
He put the cigarette back between his lips. "Take it the way you want. I don't care. Good luck," with that, Vexon went back inside.
I crossed my arms against my chest now.
Newana and Nafeesa's plan failed, but I know how to bring your emotions back, I thought. You will come running to me, Vexon.
I took out my phone and texted Max.
Ruby:
I need a favor.
Max:
Omg! Rubster?! Are you alive?
I texted Max back and grinned.
