Ruby
"You're mean! A kiss can't make me forgive you," I whined, plopping down on a beanbag after our long kiss, while Vexon sat on the other one.
"Well, I knew you were tough," Vexon muttered, and I narrowed my eyes. He sighed before holding his ear with his hands, and looked at me, his eyes softening at the sight of me. "I am sorry, Gem. I had to go to the USA for work, and I returned last night. I am sorry for not contacting you for the last two weeks. But I swear, there was not a single moment I didn't miss you."
I crossed my arms and pouted. "If you really missed me, why didn't you call me?"
"I know that if I keep in touch with you, I will come running back to you, not caring about the work. But it was important, so I didn't want to mess it up," he paused briefly, "Although Richard kept me updated about you every day." A fond smile formed on his lips as he remembered something. "He would text me and sometimes even send your photos secretly."
I cringed at the last sentence.
"So you replied to Richard, but you couldn't be bothered checking my texts? Are you changing your preference, Vexon?" I teased, feigning a serious demeanor.
His eyes grew wider, and he released the hold of his ears. "What are you, crazy?" He squeezed his eyes shut and opened them again. "Look, there's only one person who I love, and that is a pretty, beautiful woman."
I laughed when he put emphasis on the word 'woman.'
"Seriously." He held my small hand in his larger ones. "I love you. You are the only person ruling my heart," he confessed, smiling at me softly.
I blushed hard at his words. It's really love, isn't it?
"What work did you have?" I asked him, trying to divert the topic.
Vexon shrugged his shoulders and answered, "I'll tell you once we go home."
I nodded and said, "You do realize that you have beaten someone at the college. If Steve co" He pressed his finger on my lips.
"Don't. Don't even utter his name. He is crazy, disturbing, and ugly."
"Ugly?" I arched an eyebrow. "Last time I checked, he was still one of the most handsome boys in our college."
Vexon rolled his eyes. "Now you can check, and you won't even recognize his face."
I chuckled. "Can I ask if you are jealous?"
He narrowed his eyes at me. "No, you cannot."
My eyes lit in amusement. "Are you jealous?" I asked teasingly.
"That ugly duckling was touching my wife, held her hand, and thought that she was his. Why will I be jealous?" He gritted his teeth.
I tried to suppress my laughter at his obvious jealousy. Vexon noticed it and rolled his eyes saying, "Laugh. Laugh as much as you can. As you say, every dog has its day."
"Hold on. You still remember that?" I asked, bewildered. I told him that after our marriage.
"I listen to your every word with full concentration, Gem."
I wanted to pull his cheeks by looking at his cuteness, but I restrained myself from doing so.
"I am sorry for that night. I was just in a cranky mood," I apologized, lowering my gaze. Sighing, Vexon pulled me in his lap, locking his arms firmly around my waist.
"It's okay. It was my fault too. I couldn't stand being away from you, so I argued back. I was being unreasonable. I am so sorry," he apologized. "I was about to return that night but, you know, work. But I sent you a letter and the chocolates."
I smiled softly and placed my head on his chest. "Thank you for letting me know and also for sending me the chocolates. It helped me to stay awake the whole night during exams."
"I wonder who can sleep after drinking caffeine and stay awake by eating chocolates," he murmured.
"Me, of course," I chimed.
"And that's why you are weird."
"By the way, don't think I still have forgiven you," I let out.
He took a deep breath before speaking, a mischievous glint on his face, "Tell me, what do I have to do to seek your forgiveness, my love?"
I grinned, an evil thought swirling in my head. "Did you have dinner yet?" He innocently shook his head so I told him, "Make us dinner then."
He looked at me as if I asked him to shoot me with his gun.
"Meanwhile, I'll take a bath," I sang the last word and got off his lap before barging into the bathroom.
When I got out of the bathroom, rubbing my wet hair with the towel, I expected Vexon to be sitting on the bed with a smug smile after having completed making the dinner. But to my surprise, I found no trace of Vexon.
I didn't happen to take less time for my bath, or did I? I took more than an hour to bath, chilling in the bathtub. How come Vexon didn't finish making the dinner yet?
I thought he could cook. He could cook, right?
What if he couldn't?
I gasped.
Without waiting for another second, I ran towards the kitchen downstairs. As soon as I saw the kitchen slope, I couldn't help but scream.
"What have you done to my kitchen?" I shrieked, and Vexon grinned sheepishly.
The scattered mess, which was previously known as the kitchen, almost sent me to a coma. Flour, salt, sugar, baking powdereverything was on the floor and the counter instead of the containers.
The weirdly, unproportioned chopped vegetables were beside the scissor, the juices of it sprinkled on the counter, whereas the cutting board and knives laid untouched. I placed a hand on my chest and asked in horror, "Did you cut them with scissors?"
Vexon looked at me in confusion and asked, "Wasn't I supposed to?"
I gaped at him. "Did you ever cook in your entire life?"
He shook his head. "This was the first time I stepped inside the kitchen."
We both heard the calling bell ring. "The dessert is ready, though I couldn't prepare the main course. Sorry," Vexon said quietly and headed towards the oven, and I followed him. I noticed that he had a little bit of flour on his left cheek.
"Wait," I uttered and he turned around after hearing me. I wiped the flour with my fingers, making a smile bloom on his face.
He mumbled, "Thank you."
Then he took out the chocolate cake, which looked almost perfect. I wondered if he could bake then.
"It's okay. We can order the main course. Let's eat dessert first," I proposed and got a knife from the shelf. I hope the mess he made was worthy.
I cut off a piece and took one bite. Vexon was looking at me with hopeful and exciting eyes. As soon as I chewed, my eyes grew wider. But I quickly covered it and continued eating.
Vexon put salt instead of sugar. This was exactly why anything that looked perfect should not be trusted.
"So..." Vexon trailed off. He was waiting for me to say something.
"It's perfect! I love it so much. Thank you." I took another slice and started eating it. "I can't stop eating this chocolate cake. It's that good."
He looked amazed. "Are you sure? Let me take a bi" I cut him off.
"No." I slapped his hand away. "This is only my chocolate cake, and Ruby doesn't share chocolates, so get lost and bring me food from McDonald's."
"Is it really that tasty? I want to taste" I interrupted him again.
"No means no. Go and bring us food." I tried to push him away.
"Okay." He raised his hands in surrender and sighed. "I am going."
I took the cake tray and was about to walk towards my bedroom. That was when we heard my mom shout. "What have you done to my kitchen?"
My eyes grew wider in fear. "Mom..."
She was looking at me and Vexon, then back at her kitchen.
"Mrs. Gerund, I" Vexon was interrupted by my mom.
"You!" She pointed her finger at Vexon, making us flinch back involuntarily. "You have the audacity to avoid my daughter, leave her alone for two weeks, and then come back here to destroy my kitchen? How could you?" she exclaimed, fuming.
"Mo"
"Ruby, shut up for God's sake." She glared at me, her nose flaring in anger while Vexon gulped. Was he scared of my mom?
A Mafia King scared of his mother-in-law?
"Vexon, get out before I lose it all. Just get out," my mom spat out.
Without glancing at me twice, Vexon dashed towards the main door.
Mom let out an exasperated sigh as if she was tired of the mundane world and just wanted to sit, playing her favorite song. She glanced at me and ordered, "Help me clean my kitchen."
I nodded and placed the cake on the table before I started rectifying the kitchen.
After half an hour, someone came to the door. Thinking it was Vexon, Mom went to get it, and I just followed her quietly.
An old man was there, wearing colorful lousy clothes. He had a huge pouch beside him and a straw hat on his head, his grey beard reaching up to his chest. I didn't know why I felt like that man seemed familiar.
"Who are you?" my mom asked, and he smiled, flashing his sparkling white teeth.
I found it extremely weird. His teeth were practically shining when his enamels should be rotting away, and he had no wrinkles. Suspicious.
"Hello, ma'am. We are offering a 50% discount on the utensils if you buy it now. I am from this store." He handed Mom a visiting card. She glanced at it and let him in.
"Yeah, I need utensils. After all, my worthless son-in-law wrecked my sophisticated kitchen," Mom murmured the last line.
I shook my head and smiled hopelessly, going back to my bedroom upstairs.
My stomach grumbled in hunger when I laid down on the bed. But I couldn't eat anything until I was sure that Vexon ate something.
Even so, he left me because he was afraid of my mother. He should have stood his ground and insisted on staying with me. Despite that, he expected me to forgive him?
Though, he tried.
I got reminded of the cake he made for me. Smiling sadly, I went back to grab the tray of cake and started munching on it after closing the door. I laid back on the bed and started watching 'Lucifer' on Netflix while eating.
It was weird how I didn't tell him how the cake actually tasted. I couldn't even understand why I was still eating it. The effort Vexon put for me to bake this cake was lovely.
My chest started feeling fuzzy as the realization finally sank in deep, and I knew there was no going back. I had fallen in the trap called love.
After all, I love my Mafia King.
I love Vexon Bevine.
With that feeling, I continued watching the series, with the only thoughts being about Vexon and what he was doing right then.
